Last hunt of 2013 with Big Digger, Bryce, and Deeponedge a few days ago

This hunt was obviously a few days ago when we had the freak 50+ degree temps at the end of December.

All four of of us made some decent finds and it was great to be able to squeeze in one more hunt.

I know Bryce ended 2013 with over 100 silver on the SE and over 100 silver on the E-Trac. I doubt he posts his finds though as he didn't post much this year and on this hunt he used the E-trac anyway.

He has also been very busy the last few weeks as his father is not doing well at all which made the holidays very hectic.
I have been and will continue to be posting off and on from his computer as will Brad and D as we are keeping an eye on his place and taking care of his pets while he is back and forth with his father. My thoughts are with him and his family.

As for me...it was a very down year on silver...way down. I just didn't get the hunt time I wanted as I was busy with work. I did however have a good time when we hunted.

Big Digger did well this year too and is always doing research for us so we have some new places to search.

We have done the best on older silver on our field hunts and although we never dug much there...when we did it was usually barber or seated.

My one and only coin find was an oldie at least...the 1898 Barber dime...and Deeponedge found the nice 14K heart pendant.

I hope everyone has a peaceful winter and finds some new spots to hunt. It just seems like it gets harder and harder to find decent sites that produce much.

nice Barber dime, Dave - I think a lot of us are frozen out right now. I went out yesterday to beat the storm but got skunked. Today it's 12 degrees and 6 inches of snow. Good luck to all in 2014.

Nice silver, Dave...and a good looking gold charm for deeponedge. Do you all use different coils and settings? Sounds like you all had a good hunt...and you're probably right in thinking it's the last one this year. Looks like there is a lot of the white stuff on the way! PS: Please pass my well wishes on to Bryce and his father.

Looks like a good hunt and with friends..Silver and gold.............hard to beat!.......Have a good year..

Looks like you all had fun! Yes...The cold and snow is here. I have been in the house doing research and trying to learn the SE. Please pass on my best wishes to Bryce and his dad.

Hunting with good friends is the best, finds or not. Here's to good health, good hunts and good friends in 2014!

Jeff

cool finds guys great way to end the year! on a high note

Lots of fun this year and hopefully some new sites for us next year.:beers:
All is well on the homefront...safe and secure.

Always a plus to be able to hunt that late in the year! Some nice finds and a good way to end the season!
I sent Bryce an email on behalf of our detecting club, concerning his father.

Thanks for including my 14k pendant in your post, Dave. I really appreciate it as it was one of my nicest finds this year.
Also thanks LFarthing for responding. Bryce usually uses an SEF coil sold by Kellyco...as do both Dave and I. Brad uses the pro coil most of the time.
Settings: we all set up our Explorers the same way Bryce does...The same as outlined in the Sabisch Explorer and E-Trac book. If Bryce ' s settings don't produce for you then there are good settings from other hunters too.
Just out of curiosity which coil do use most of the time?

I have been using the 8" coil quite often lately but most of the other guys I hunt with have been using coils at least 10" or more. We all use explorers and to be honest the 2 guys who still use the xs do just as good if not better than the rest of us. I am considering giving an etrac a shot as one of the guys does well with it. I sent you another email about possibly meeting up to hunt sometime. There's a few of us who meet up pretty regularly to hunt. Not an official club but thought about possibly starting one if the interest is there. Thanks
