Last hunt of 2011

Larry (IL)

Well-known member
McLucky and I headed South and made a few stops on our way towards Springfield. Our best hunt of the day was stopped short in Atlanta, IL by the grounds keeper, (lawnmower man) not for what we were doing but because other detectorists had done a sloppy job detecting in the past. I will not dwell on it, this post speaks volumes.

The 1935-S Merc, 4 wheats and clad came from there and things were looking good before the hunt was cut short. After a couple more "let's try here" flops we ended up looking for civil war relics spending the last couple of hours of sunlight of 2011. Four bullets, two of them newer and a rivet with leather still attached was my take. Although the recoveries weren't stellar, it was a beautiful day to hunt, sunshine and temperatures in the low 50's and on the last day of December in Illinois no less.

Congrats on the hunt, Even though it was cut short. By chance do you have any idea how many Civil War bullets you have now?

I really don't know, I suppose I could count them but I will just guess and say 40 to 50.

Those would make a pretty sweet collection in it's own. Nice Oak frame.

No oak but still pretty. This is just one and I need another display for more. It looks like I have 94 just in this display so I might have close to 150 bullets now.

That's a nice frame of relics. Too bad others ruined it for hunting in Atlanta. I see a three ringer and a nice day to boot makes it a good hunt. I can't believe we are still hunting at the end of December, usually the ground is frozen solid by December 1st.

A fun day for sure...Larry did well...I came home with a musket ball and a 1902 barber dime.....and the fact that we hunted on the last day of the year right here in good old Illinois!! H.H.

Got a pic? I like musket balls. Oh, Did I mention I like Barber Dimes also. :clapping:
