Last hunt of 2011 with Ace 250 gets a wheatie...

I got out on December 31st for the last hunt of the year. Normally here in northern Illinois I usually can't get out and hunt this late in the year because of the weather. Really been a mild winter so far but that is about to change as we are expecting a few inches of snow today. I hit the in-laws farm once again and was working an area of their yard I had gone over briefly once before. This time I slowed down and worked the area like I know I should.
I had the 250 in jewelry mode running 4 bars on the sensitivity. I had a reading that was bouncing between penny and dime showing about 4" in depth. I cut my plug and at about 4" there it was a 1944P penny. Sorry I do not have any pictures of it as my digital camera is not the best. The coin is in "fair" shape and I now it is a fairly common one but still I thought to myself it was a good way to end the year. Also pulled out a dime, nickel, and 4 more pennies all clad/newer.
I plan on hitting that area again this spring. Who knows what else I might find?

Good luck and HH to all.

Jeff

:cheers:That's a good way to end the year!

I found one of those 1943 steel pennies in my spare change jar the other day. You could tell it was steel, but I stuck it to a magnet just in case. I have been saving my spare change for years and I am looking it over for coin errors and found one error penny from 1999 with the wide spacing between A & M on America. That's not much, but who knows what is waiting for me in all those mason jars full of spare change?

Congratulations on your wheatie. The weather has been warm in my area, but I hurt my shoulder at the supermarket the other day reaching over my buggy to put a gallon of milk in the basket. The girl who rang me up just handed it to me and I was standing behind my buggy and reached forward off balance to put it in the buggy and really pulled something. I wrote the owner of this old house that is over 100 years old and hope he will give me permission to metal detect there this coming week. All he can say is no and there's no telling what old coins are just waiting to be found. HH

The only bad thing is my pc is down and I have to go to the public library and they are closing for upgrades and MLK day and will be closed until January-18th. I don't have a back up of my hard drive and if I use the recovery disk, it will delete or erase all the metal detecting information and websites I have managed to locate over the last few years. Anybody know anything about this problem. I get a post failure with the message, disk read error. Anybody know how to retrieve my hard drive information? The local computer store closed last year.

I too toss all of my change in a "change jar". Just so happened a couple of days ago I went to toss some more in when I looked in the jar and right on top was 1946 wheat penny. Many years ago when I was really in to coin collecting I would always check my change over very carefully. Seems now I don't pay that much attention to it but I probably should. As to your computer issue fongu I am afraid I am of no help. Perhaps the next time you get a chance to go on line you could go to your computers mfg website. Some of them have troubleshooting information that may be of help.

I hope to check the company out that I bought the PC from Wednesday. I have used up all my allotted time at the library today catching up on my email. If I can figure out some way to save all the information on my hard drive, I will be happy.
