Last hunt in June...

Got back to the old neighborhood last night with my partner - we found a newly vacated rental built in 1947 that I've always wanted to hunt before moving out of that part of town last year. This was a promising corner lot that didn't fail to impress My partner's first target was a Wheat - I started in the curb strips with 6-8" tall grass using 4 khz and Reactivity 2 and quickly got onto a good double target which was two clad dimes side-by-side.

The front yard had long grass as well but had received a good bit of rain in the last two days. The ground was very silty but easy to work with and most coins ranged from 3-5" deep. I was a little surprised to see the Deus hit so hard on coins in this tall grass and at one point closer to the house I used Reactivity = 3 to coax a few pennies away from the front porch area. Again, most targets were 3-5" deep with one I can remember being 6" or so which sounded great despite the high grass!

We were pulling Wheats every 5-10 minutes or so and I came upon a target that locked on 91-92 and had a sweet mellow tone in both directions. A little bit later out comes a nice 1945 Merc from 4-5" down!!! Not long after that my partner comes around the house with a 1964 Rosie...we were both on the board! Kept sniping mostly pennies for the next hour or so with Wheats often enough to keep things interesting. Last night it was very humid without a breeze - so I will admit to cherrypicking somewhat and not digging the "zincoln targets" (return trip needed!)

I remember EMI became a little bothersome, so I switched to 12khz and almost immediately found a solid "74" not far from where the Merc was located. Much to my surprise I saw a nickel in the hole and with a little rubbing I saw the large "P" mintmark...second silver was a 1945 P war nickel! 12 khz really hit hard on coins and anything that was an 84 or 86 turned out to be copper pennies, most being Memorials. I don't care, I will dig em all day long....

My partner was about thirty feet away when he remarked on a certain signal...with his AT Pro he was getting a "91" in all directions and asked me to scan it. Right away in 12 khz I got the sweetest-sounding 94-95 I've ever heard and I started laughing...switched to 4 khz to get a solid and confident "87-88". We both knew this was going to be a fantastic coin, and from only 4" deep he pulled a beautiful 1943 Walker! This got us both fired up and only fueled the fire for more!

Stayed on for another hour or so and targets were getting slim in the front yard, so we walked around back to pull two or three Wheats between us and a few rabies tags from the 1980s and 1990s. We are expecting a good bit of rain in the next two or three days so next night trip we will be revisiting this place with the hopes that the grass will be cut! Maybe Sunday night before the usual Monday excursion...

Again you get the goodies way to go keep them coming. I changed the settings in my controller to you recommendations and can't wait to give them a go where I've hunted before. Mainly going down to TX Power 1 instead of 2 and the discrimination 2 notch 00-35 and 98-99 settings.

You guys did good. JD?, did he do the happy dance? Hope this rain continues all day. I'll be happy to give up a day afield for better digging conditions. Good hunting Taylor. HH jim tn

Yes indeed we need some rain! There has to be some deeper 7" plus targets at that place - with any luck the grass will be cut and we can give it another go!
