Last hole just before dark makes the day!

Every week I've been checking on the level of a lake I've been hitting. Before I left town I stopped at a sand volleyball court that is used by ESPN. One of the grounds keepers came over and shared stories of detecting around town. He's got a whites and related about the coinage they found when a 100 year old ball park in town underwent renovation. Quite a few Barbers by his description of the coins and dates. I assured him I would remove all trash and fill the holes. His reply was along the lines of who cares - tear it up. They are going to turn it into a skating rink soon for the season. I didn't find much but did leave the place with all my digs smoothed over. With the time change shortening daylight and a 50 minute ride to the lake I was looking at maybe a 2 hour hunt without any promise it would pan out. The coins stopped coming from the forgotten beach but I'm an addict for these lowered lakes. I was shocked to see the lake nearly drain in areas and in others there wasn't much water dividing the lake. In the first two hours all I hit was 3 wheats, aluminum religious medal and a couple of rare to find there clad coins. Then just as I thought I'd go home skunked I hear a sweet tone. A blackened silver quarter a few inches down turns my day around. Stand up take a swing and I can't believe I'm seeing a likely half dollar signal deep. I took a scoop then after another scoop and a wave of the coil I dug in the sand by hand. I see at about 9 inches exactly what my V was telling me. Quick pic, drop the beauty in my water bottle. Stand up swing and im getting another silver hit better than a dime. Hoping for another half I find a silver quarter in the side of the hole. In one small spot my whole day was made just as it was getting too dark to hang out any more. Just not the place I'm going to hunt with a headlight, too little margin for a mistake. The pictures tell the rest. If you look hard the half is visible at the bottom. The hole you see next to the detector & scoop is where the half and quarters came from.
glory holethe view behind looking to the shore . This silver half #7 for 2014.
One of the best 2 hour hunt this year. I love this hobby / sport. HH - Bruce

The pictures of the lake look like the two large lakes we have in SC a few years ago. Unfortunately I did not detect back then. The water level was approximately 10 feet below normal. The Archeologists were having a fit because people were picking up relics from the areas that were high and dry.

Great Job on those Silvers. That Is the kind of hunt the rest of us dream about. Congratulations.

Well, your certainly a dedicated detectorist thats for sure! This hobby does require lot's of patience and determination and if the passion is there and strong enough, sooner or later you'll get the goodies!
