Last few hunts!:garrett:

With our dry conditions haven't been swinging as much for a good chunk of Sept. Over the past ten days or so, however, I, and occasionally my hunting buddy, have hit a few spots that still has some dirt in selective spots that one can dig in. One such spot a week or so ago yielded me my 100th silver coin for the year. A 1917s S L quarter. Although my Omega located it, I am showing it as it is one of the nicer Standing Liberty's I have ever dug and since my A T Pro has gotten me 95 % or my of my silver coins for the year to achieve the 100 coin mark. The other 2 silver coins came over this past weekend. The 48d Rosie form a school yard and the 39 Merc. came from a demoed housing development.

Yesterday my buddy and I hit a spot that yielded no silver, but did get several wheat cents and I was fortunate enough to get my coil over a 69-71 reading that was a 1907 I H cent. Also got 2, 3 ringers.

This morning I hit the housing site again and managed to recover a nice sterling Saint Christopher's medal from 4" deep. Nice chunk of silver.

We are hoping this front passing through tonight gives us a good soaker. HH jim tn

Beautiful! Just for your info, I put a silver dollar out on the yard yesterday, and that Pro seriously whacked it, hard hit no doubt...so if you get your coil over one someday, no worries!

Would you care to share with me how the best way to detect a demolished house site would be? I think I know, but doing it is totally different for me, lol. I'm assuming go slow and listen carefully to the tones? I have permission to hunt an old house that's just been torn down within the last couple of weeks is why I'm asking. And boy is it littered with crap. I even found a polaroid pic of a dead guy, just laying there in his suit, in a casket. Kind of weird, lol. But anyway, do you dig on tones with no vdi reading...just high tone only, clear? I didn't really hunt it because a storm was coming in. I hope it soaked the place good.

This demo site is quite large. It was Navy housing from the late 30's into the mid 80's when all the housing was torn down and the Navy donated the site to the nearby town and they made it into a park. It is one solid trash pit.

On this site one must try and determine where the houses were located and hunt the strips of ground between the houses. Only copper and rebar under the houses. I was told once how many houses were there and if I recall correctly, something of a little over 100. Some places there are gravel driveways and throughout the site are parking areas. Along the streets grass strips, in and along the sides of driveways and parking areas all contain coins and jewelry......and literally, thousands of bottle caps, tabs, cans and you name it, its there.

It is a small coil site and I use tone first for locating targets and then see what the vdi says. Most targets aren't all that deep on the site. Many, many more are missed do to masking then the few one might miss for lack of small coil depth. It is very prudent on these kind of spots to work small patches per outing and hit it from every direction possible. I have been hunting on it now off and on for almost ten years, as well as many others since the mid 80's, and it still gives up some goodies. I have recovered over 450 silver coins from it, many silver jewelry items and 8 or 9 gold rings. Hunting slow is the way to go on these kinds of spots. HH jim tn

Wow Jim another great day of finds. You often find some really nice silver coins. Knowing a site and how to hunt it / coil selection & settings like you do make all the difference.

Congrats on the 100!

Thanks a lot Jim! I do have the little Garret coil, and have started using it exclusively. And I'm starting to listen more closely. So hopefully, with a little more practice, it'll start to pay off
Thanks again!

That St. Christopher Medal just keeps showing up year after year on Garrett Forums. A good guy to have on your side.
