Last few hunts and a FLYING first for me!

I haven't posted in a while but decided to post a few odds and ends from my last few hunts. I only got out to hunt a handful of times last year with dismal results because I was so wrapped up with work but I have decided to allow much more time for detecting this year. Hello to you guys who I haven't spoken with in a while and all the newer members. I went back to my usual door-knocking the first hunt or two with minimal results and decided to drive around. I happened across an old park that turned out to be from the mid to late 1800's (old for my part of the country) and decided to give it a go. My very first dig within 10 mins detecting was a deep injun. I soon realized this old park had been cherry picked of high dig-me tones but was loaded with mid to low tones. So I continued to pop injuns, a few wheats, a few missed silver, a ton of old costume jewelry, an injun flattened on the RR tracks that ran by there even back then, other odds and ends, and a first for me: a 1858 Flying Eagle Cent! It's not in the best of shape but is about as old of a find as we come across in the Midwest. It came in slightly higher than a nickel but that's what I had my hopes up for. What a surprise for me. Anyhow, if any local cherry pickers are reading this, can you please point me out the rest of your cherry picked sites, I really had a great time digging all those skipped over injun and lower tones. :yo: Thanks all and HH this year, JJ

Hey Guy, nice finds ! That FE is in better shape than you realize. They're usually pretty toasted out this way in New England.

Thanks for all the replies guys. Mike, the token is a James E Pepper Whiskey token and I don't think its too old. Jeff, these injuns are the reason I quit using hot peroxide to remove gunk a while ago. Because I'm a terrible lifeguard when they're in the pool and I end up with brand new 100+ year old coins. Back to just rinsing them off in water to remove dirt. Thanks again for the replies fellas, JJ
