Haven't been swinging quite as much do to weather, the Thanksgiving holiday and obligations, of late, but have gotten just enough finds to put together a post. With one of my hunting buddies, Chris, did get in a nice 5 + hour hunt earlier this week on a good old spot. As it turned out, it was his day. He nailed a sweet 1900 Barber dime, 1899 I H, an old ear ring, a couple of period bullets, a couple of wheats and a Buffalo nickel. My take for the outing was 4 wheats, a couple of pieces of period lead and clad.
Yesterday, I did manage a 54d Rosie and a couple of 40's wheat cents from an old park.
At 0600 dark with a light mist falling, I headed out this morning to the same old spot as yesterday. Just light enough to see decently when I started swinging along a road. After a couple of cents I snagged the 38 Washington quarter about two car lengths down the road. About a foot away from the quarter, I dug the 43s Mercury. Both of the silvers had some dark stains, but after checking the dates, gave them a good soda rub and they cleaned up nicely. About an hour or so into the rainy hunt, I began to realize that the A T Pro was a lot more water proof then was my old rain jacket and called it a wrap. I had recently bought a new rain jacket, but hadn't broken it in yet. Will, as I threw the other rag away when I got home. During the hunt, I wasn't taking the time to check the cents and when I did at home had a nice surprise with 1 of the cents being a 1895 I H and 3 wheat cents. The wheats were 40's and 50's. Also dig some curios and a couple of nice pieces of lead.
Kind of a bad forecast for us southern folks for tonight and tomorrow, then cold, so swinging just might be curtailed for a spell. For a lot of you up north, it appears your hunting season has ended. When I dig the next silver, I'll be thinking about you all. HH jim tn
