Last chance for Fisher?

Hi,

A year ago I commented on Fisher's downhill slide at http://jb-ms.com/Carlsforum/Nov22-2005/25501.html as it was obvious to me things were not going well. I'm a detector dealer, but I'm also my own best customer. I've done pretty well in predicting what I need to stock and sell by simply paying attention to what I'd like to have myself.

Well, as a long-time Fisher owner and true believer, I never felt like I abandoned Fisher so much as I felt Fisher abandoned me. Now we have new ownership, and new units announced. So I have to ask myself how I'm feeling about all this.

There is some obvious floundering going on. New unit announced with delivery date, which promptly gets delayed. And generally little communication as to where Fisher is headed from First Texas. But I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt, as transition periods can be difficult. And the bottom line is I can't help but be hopeful, and so I'll hope for the best.

I'm glad they delayed the F75, and the reason is that I think First Texas needs to really take a deep breath and understand just how important this unit will be. This thing needs to get done, and it needs to get done right. It needs to be its own unit. If I buy a Fisher, and I feel like I got something else with a new sticker, I'm not going to be too happy. Make this a machine Fisher fans can be proud of, one we can rave about. This is not just another detector. It is an investment in the entire future of Fisher as a viable brand name. It is the one new upcoming unit I have my eye on. For me at least, it will be the first Fisher I will buy after the First Texas purchase of the company. It could also be the last. Don't blow it, boys.

Hint: Get to work on a small coil now, and introduce it simultaneous with the release of the machine. Pay attention, stuff like that will really score points with people like me.

Hey Steve! How are you. Great post. I was thinking: You wrote:

I was hoping it'd be a machine all different brand fans can rave about!

I acquired a Coin$srike. I've gone through many different detectors. Some have been sold off and some have remained. So far the C$ has remained. I just might opt for that F-75.

I will remain optimistic that FT will do the right thing with this one.

the C$ is much more like the T2 in it's manners than a CZ will ever be so I take that as more evidence that the new Fisher F top of the line will be more likely a derivitive of the C$ type of detector. Or so I hope. :)

looks like the T-2, but know it will be different yet will share some of the same characteristic of the T-2 is why I pre ordered one.It may be a mistake, maybe not and the only way will be when I can get one in my hands and use it in the places I want to detect.
I did like my T-2 and even used it more this past summer than my favorite detector the Sovereign GT or even my Explorer and hoping I will like the new Fisher F75 as much or more then my T-2 I had.

After I bought an old Relco detector (and found nothing with it) I went to the Explorer. Knowing very well what the Explorer can do, it must be that you were really impressed with that T-2!

I'm curious if your finds increased due to the T-2?

Could you elaborate on your experience?

Tony

what the T2 was saying and started digging the good targets up. My T2 has found many good finds that the GTI 2500 had missed due to masking near sidewalks. But it's more than just the places you hunt with the T2.
Now thats all fine and good after you learn it's language and understand what it's saying to you. There is a learning curve, as with any great detector, at first I almost sold the T2 as I almost did with the GTI 2500.The Concentric coil is great on coins standing on edge...Heck plant one and try it out! The T2 is so easy to manuver around the settings , it's super quick response time allows it to recover and move on to read the next item quickly. The T2 is so light compared most other detectors....

Thank God I hung in there with the T2. It's a massive target retriever, and I did almost sell it, I even offered it here I believe. Listen don't when we fail to give any new detector a right to survive we would only be hurting ourselves. Really we are most blessed with this Finds Forum! We're it not for this place we hang out at, we'd all have to spend some big bucks for to find out which the deepest, baddest, most reliable,perfectest...hehehe machine in town!
Here we all don't have to spend so much money, we can just see what developes.

I think thats the coolest thing of all.

Back to the T2.....Had I sold it when I was first discontent with the learning curve, it would have been my loss. Today I feel a lot different, and much more confident with all my detectors. I've done some reading that you guys posted, I've done research and even designed test gardens and detailed items that I've located with the T2. The T2 is fantastic!

Fisher F75 should be a good machine as well. Will it measure up to the T2's performance? Well that's a good question. If it's more stable, and thats it...I'll keep the power of my T2 cause I can adjust that.
If it's anything more....There's no doubt I'll buy a F75.

Someone will be posting a comparison I'm sure of that!

Tony,
I hope no one gets upset talking about the T-2 on the Fisher forum, but I feel they are cousins now.
My clad finds really increased over the Explorer, but that could be I could swing faster with the T-2.Many times I went over area withthe T-2 and the Explorer and found the T-2 just seem to see more of the new coins too.The T-2 was so much lighter too so swinging it was easier to do too. I like the way the adjustments were too as I could change them fast when ever i needed too.
There was a few spots I didn't like it too, like competition hunting as it chatter too much around any detector for me.
Now find wise i was happy each and every time out hunting with this detector and went to a spot along the river where hundreds of detectors had been, plus one guy with a Explorer that worked hit hard.
What was a little surprising was some of the new clad plus a few Wheaties other have missed, but really surprised me was the walking lib half that showed 13 inches deep, but was only 10-11 inches deep and got a good signals on it. I also found my one and only Gold ring with the T-2 plus the coin I am going to post as you see how small it is and it was around 7 inches deep also in a well worked area and missed. The T-2 is a very sensitive detector and one that may not be for everyone, but those that get to learn it will see what it can do and hope the new Fisher F75 will even be better yet, if it is you are going to start seeing some great finds being found that even the CZ will have missed.
I will say I did well with the T-2 and liked it a lot, but can only use so many detector and bills had to be paid, so I sold it with the idea of getting another one someday, but will try the F75 when they come out.

Hi Bill,

I personally wish detectors were kept secret until the day we can all get them. My theory on detectors is if I do not have it in stock, I'm not going to sell it to you. It may cost me sales, but so be it. Stuff like the F75 getting announced with a delivery date convinces me I'm happy with that policy. I'd hate to have taken somebodies deposit based on November availability, only to now be telling those people February. Hopefully. So nope, no pre-orders. I guess if someone insisted but I'd try to avoid it.

And nothing annoys me more than ordering something being advertised for sale online, only to have the company then tell me it is out of stock and on backorder. We go to great lengths to try and avoid this on our website by having items automatically marked "Temporarily Out of Stock" and having the ability to buy them online disabled until the items are back in stock. Basically, if you see something on our website with a BUY button that means it is in stock and ready to ship. We get caught now and then due to the seemingly inevitable inventory errors but the system works very well.

My biggest error in that regard was right here on Find's. I had a used MXT, and put it on our website with a buy button. I guess the price was right, because I mentioned in the Find's Classifieds, and by next morning had four orders for the same unit. The first guy that ordered got the unit, but the rest of the folks felt like I'd pulled one over on them somehow. So I learned my lesson on putting one-of-a-kind items directly online without being more careful about the timing and monitoring the item carefully to pull it immediately on sale.

As far as the F4 goes I doubt I'll stock it. Nothing to do with the machine itself, or that it appears to be a repackage. More about the fact that I have little market for mid-range units. Everyone seems to want units under $300 or units over $600. The $400-$500 range is pretty dead. Too expensive to be in-expensive, but rarely deemed as being the "best".

Probably more info than you needed, but once I start typing...

I found some Cal. Gold coins but nothing that looks like that one. So what is it and is it gold??? :D: :D: Later bud Jerry aka Tinfoil

Tinfoil, he made me look too. Finally found a clue in the 59th Ed. Red Book, page 364 under California Small-Denomination Gold, where it says: ""Beware of extremely common modern replicas (often having a bear in the design), which have little numismatic value." So that must be why it doesn't look like gold. On the subject of funny money, coin counterfeiting was pretty common in the 1800s, but I don't think I've seen a single example in the forum show & tells. Wonder why not?

It is not gold and it did read like a pull tab, but weaker sounding is why I dug it. My one red book shows several different ones, but not this one and feel it is more of a token than a coin. Was fun finding it anyway and almost gave me a heart attack as I thought I had my first $1 gold piece at first.I seen what the power of the T-2 can do on small items and recommend a good pin pointer like the Uniprobe when you have a T-2 or spend a lot of time looking for some of the real small targets.

In my 51st edition in the Cal gold write up. I can see the bear on the back of his coin. I think it said it was a replica or some kind of token. Well maybe you will get one of those Cal Gold coins some day. :D: :D: :bouncy: HH Jerry aka Tinfoil
