Last 2 Hunts...

Howdy--

My friend Kenneth and I decided to take a road trip to a town about 50 miles away. We found a lot that had an old boarded-up building and plenty of huntable ground on it. After we secured permission from the owner to hunt the lot we got our V's out and began to hunt . My first signal was the 1963-D Washington Quarter. Good start! I followed that find with some memorials and clad. Then found a spot where I dug a few Wheat Cents. In one of the holes I dug a 1939 Wheat Cent and when I re-checked the hole with my pinpointer I discovered the 1943 steel cent. Although the 1943 is not a rare coin it IS a rare find due to the VDI range that it hits at. Just as I dug the 1943, a truck pulled up on the lot. It was a lady who asked "What are you doing? ? and "This is private property!" When I explained that we have permission from the owner Mr. X, she said that's her husband. Then she made a call on her cell phone and then said that we had hunted there long enough and had 10 minets to get off of the property. I guess I know who wears the pants in that family!! hahah We quickly packed our gear and left. We found another lot to hunt and with clad and memorials I dug the 1961-D Roosevelt.

On my next hunt we found an abandoned house that was not to overgrown. I dug 11 Wheat Cents - the oldest a 1927 and over $3 in clad. The best find there was the 1963-D Franklin Half. With the weather cooling off, I hope to get out swinging the coil a bit more often. Best of luck and...

Other people have had similar situations - one person gives permission, the other takes it back. Some nice finds there, congrats.

Very common theme .. many even get kicked out by the person whom grants permission. . nice franklin half..never found one myself.

Love the Franklin half. I haven't seen one in years.

Very nice finds !

Congrats on some nice finds!

Nice finds. When I was a kid the farmer I worked for used to pay us in Franklin halves. Just curious , do you recall what the vdi for the steel cent was? It seems its quite low.
That's too bad about the miscommunication between the owners.

[[size=large]size=medium]Thanks DougF. About 20 years ago a similar situation - I procured permission from a land owner to detect a Gulf oil camp that was active from the late 1930's to the early 1950's. I hunted it every chance that I had for about 6 months and dug quite a few WW2 military insignias and plenty of silver coins. Then one day while I was digging a signal the owner, Mr R. came up behind me and told me to leave and never come back. I had no idea why my permission had been rescinded. I had always respected the land and was courteous to Mr. R and even brought him good meals from my restaurant. I gave it a lot of thought and came to the conclusion that since the oil-camp and Mr. R's house was in a remote area and Mr. R had shown me his currency collection which had a value exceeding $750,000 (many vintage $1,000 and $500 bills and pre 1900 silver and gold certificates). My thought was that he regretted showing me the collection and feared for his property and life. A few years later I was in a pawn shop looking for deals and saw an extensive currency collection for sale. Shortly after I took a ride out to the old Gulf camp and learned that Mr.R had passed away and his daughter had gotten rid of everything. I was able to regain permission to detect the site and I still go out there every so often. Best of luck and...

Howdy copper kidd. Those were happy days weren't they? I remember when I was 12, I had a paper route. The news paper was 45 cents per week. It was great when I collected and the customer would give me a Franklin or a Walking Liberty half and say "keep the change"!

Copper kidd, I found the steel cent in the hole with the 1939 Wheat Cent. I found the 1939 first and when I checked the hole with my pin pointer discovered the 1943. In an air test with my V3i , the 1943 gave a bouncy VDI signal from the negative #'s up to the positive 30's. Best of luck and...
