Right through my shoe and into my heel...... quarter inch of the barb went into the back of my heel and the pain was intense all the way up to my groin...took me thirty minutes to make it to the beach bar for some hot soapy water..there are no lifeguard stations on the beach ,but most anyone that works on the beach knows what to do for stingray wounds...I had been noticing a greater number of them lately,October is a major month for them. The big 12" coil on the DF usually moves them out of the way,but this guy got me....SO all you west coast MDers..WATCH OUT.... >>>Does not hurt at all after hot water treatment...as hot as you can stand..it breaks down the protein of the substance on the barb....no pain at all 10 hours later...GL

Man! Just a matter of time for you salties....we dont have any bitey or stingy things up here in the fresh. Glad you survived it, Bob.

Glad to hear it wasn't worse Bob!!

I grew up on the Texas coast and have heard a lifetime of sad tails about ray stingers planted in feet, legs etc.

So far I haven't encountered one here in the north eastern cold waters, but even so I "shuffle" my feet out of habit.

Well ,not being a gluten for punishment,or the unfortunate chance of deja vu.... i went land hunting this morning:surrender:
That was my 6Th time in 50 years of beach life to be stung, worse was when i was a kid...right under the thumbnail....Its the price you pay to live here...I see it better than our friends down under where everything that swims, crawls, slithers, jumps,or even just lays there is poisonous...
I have a couple of plastic ankle guards that go down into the shoe, think I'll wear those next water hunt...Thanks all.... GL HH

good to hear your OK,sometimes they can brake off in you.A good soak in epsom salts works pretty good . Try to keep the wond open so it heals from inside out.the barb is coverd with bactira.I put cable ties on my coil and let them stick out like wiskers it helps push them out of the way, good luck.:stretcher:

I got hit years ago in the little toe. Went right through my dive boot. Close to the worst pain I ever experienced. My foot was swollen for a week, and for almost a year, it hurt every morning when I'd first stand on it.
