Laser B3 Powermax

Has anyone got an opinion on the Laser B3 Power Max.

At present I use a T2 ,excellent Machine, want a low cost light weight machine as backup machine.
I have read that the old Lazer B3 Powermax was a great machine.

I cannot fault my T2. 6 series. Tthis machine is incredible on both Land and beach.

Would like feedback please as to cost etc. I live in the UK. This forum in the USA has excellent feedback overall on
many topics re detecting. So come on USA I look forward to your suggestions.

Its a Tesoro designed like the B1 for British conditions so sold in the U.K. so a U.K. forum might have been a better place to ask about it.

12 kHz VLF motion design with variable discrimination, pinpoint, battery check. Stock coil an 8" concentric. Used 8 1.5 volt AA batteries.

It was described as a breathed on version of the Silver Sabre and good at the time but not in the same class as the later Red Heats.

The sensitivity control (numbered 1 to 10) was extended into a red zone. This allowed very high sensitivity but can only be used on a few select sites. "Normal" ground you would set it around 7 but on a wet salt beach it could be needed to be set from 5 down to as low as below 1.

Its not super light like the later Tesoro models and there doesn't seem as many about as the B1 and B1 Hi-Power were so popular. Unless you know someone whose selling a B3 I would look at B1 Hi-Power instead. This combined the performance of the Silver Sabre with the power and ground balance control of the Bandido. The advantage is that you can use the B1 as a B3 if you want, or flick a switch to be able to set the detector to suit the ground conditions of the soil your searching. This also means that if you want to use one of the many optional coils you don't need to have the detector re-calibrated internally to suit the new coil as you do to get the best results from the B3.

A friend of mine switched from a medium price new meter I.D. machine to a B1 and his hammered silver finds went from 2 in the previous year to 14 this year so far. Got to say though that I also like the T2. Just wish they were a bit better constructed. The Laser's are pretty bomb proof.
