Las Cruces NM area for nugget hunting?

I am heading to Las Cruces soon and would like to try some nugget hunting does anyone know of any good areas to try?
 
Hi jlw. I just got back online and saw your post. If you head north of Las Cruces an hour you will be in the Hillsbourgh and Caballo mining areas. The east shore of Caballo Lake can be productive. Be careful as there are a number of active claims over there. West of the lake, heading trowards Silver City, east of the town of Hillsbourgh is also a good place to try. Good luck.. Tortoise
