Hi larry, sorry to be such a bother but I can't figure out this V3 of mine. I tried for about 40 min(then the rains came) and all I could find were bottle caps. They were both on top and down to 4 ". I took my MXT and found some 1cent pieces but not with the V3. I got real slow but all I could was Iron. I finally got wise and used the analize and saw all of the caps showed Hi iron so I didn't dig'em. Was in coin and went to C/J mode, no help. Lots of trash. Any ideas????. Thanks for any help. Just got my V3 back from :whites: with the upgrade. It took a while to find a place where I could G/B it. Any suggestions appreciated. thanks, anyone else jump in also. Thanks again, floridason

just my 2c - well I happen to have just done a post and saw your post, and happen to go grab another cup of coffee so I thought I would do a quick air test with a couple shots on a air test. These were with the stock 10" DD coil air test. Just to show the air results and analyze display for a bottle cap, clad quarter and a silver quarter. Notice the frequency order in the analyze displays - the 22.5 & 2.5 kHz.
You mentioned "lots of trash" - perhaps a small coil may help separate the targets better. I have the 4x6 shooter, many have the 5.3
Anyway, just thought I'd throw a few air test pics real fast here since I, ah, err, umm, just felt like it:blink:

Great! Thanks for doing the test and posting it. Pictures are worth a thousand words...... :clapping:

Hi tab-, thanks. I think that I'll try a smaller coil. I have a 5"DD and a 3.5 X 5 DD, so will try and see if that helps. I'm just glad that I started watching the bar graph and checked the ones that were showing RED and yep, they were all bottle caps. I still haven't found any clad or pennies, or silver(don't find much around here anyway). Have found a lot of clad with my MXT in the last year tho. Thanks for your help. HH floridason

Don't be afraid to use your MXT coil in Florida on the V3, it is likely to work better for you than the D2. The bad thing about the DD coils is they love the screw caps, so you will probably have better screw cap rejection as well as more depth with the 950 conical, especially on the beach. Tab made a great post and that is how I know a screw cap from a quarter and the quarter has a cleaner audio for me as well. You may very well like the smaller coil too in trash, that is what they are make for. Once you have as many hours on the V that you have on the MXT, I'm sure you like the V3 as well or better than the MXT. Like any new machine, I does take time to learn how to use the V. We are all learning and helping each other at the same time on here. Good luck and you are no bother at all. If you have a question, there are probably many others with the same question too...

I've been digging lots of bottle caps, too, and the analyze graph is a big help. So is the pinpoint display -- if you're pinpointing and your green (bottom) bar isn't the strongest one, you're probably looking at a bottle cap. I have seen a few bottle caps that will hit hardest on green, though, so it's not foolproof. I have yet to find an actual quarter with the V3, but I do notice that a bottle cap signal is a lot less stable than the signal from a coin (dime or penny). If I swing the coil one way and it reads "quarter" and I swing it perpendicular and it reads "iron", it's a bottle cap. All the coins I've found read pretty much the same from any direction.

Hello is there a way of telling the difference between a silver Quarter and Clad?

I don't see a difference from those graphs.

Any way to tell the difference between a silver quarter from clad?

Not reliably. Comparing two like condition quarters, the silver will read a couple of #'s higher but once you factor in wear, a silver coin could often read lower than a clad. I have found worn seated dimes that read in the Wheaty and Indian cent range. Also the angle of the silver in the ground will affect the reading as well as the audio. Some people will even just dig only deeper coins, but that too is a gamble, I have found many of silver targets just under the surface, including Seated coins.

Hello larry

I agree .

One of my mercs. was only 1 inch.

I heard that on the V3 you can hear a higher tone on the silver . how about the silver program?

thanks,andy

The silver program is a little too hot for my ground and I haven't messed with it too much. I really like the Hi-Pro program so that is what I use.

The silver quarter seems to show smaller on the size bar to me....
I assume your quarters ( silver + clad) are the same diameter.

At just a little extra depth a silver quarter can show strong cent VDI's. If the quarter comes out with a light powdery white surface, the copper in the mix has leached from the surface and is giving the lower VDI in the surrounding halo. Found a '44 last week @ 4.5', and it was mostly giving me 72 to 78's range of VDI's. Same exact thing happened with finds on my DFX. (They'd still spike to 83+ a bit though.)

As far as the bottle caps go....today I went out and saw one flush to the ground and my v3 was giving a good quarter. I went to the analyze screen and in this case there was no difference at all (which surprised me). Then I added bottle cap disc at only 1 and when I went over it, it definitely kept breaking up the signal like my dfx used to. I guess there are different ways to solve the problem.

I found the same on the BC reading a quarter at times - but the audio blip or just starting to break seems to be the good hint in this case.
The setting can go up to 20 (which I haven't tried) so I'm told, but to much rejection can cause some good targets to break up at times. I think the highest I have tried the BC rejection setting was 4 or 6 once.
I think the next time I hit one, I'll raise the coil and re-sweep and see if any difference can be determined then dig the results.

I need to start looking into the Hi-Pro program myself now that I have been using the coin & jewelery for some time.

Also in the normal search (toggle center), keep an eye on the pattern and which fades the fastest and lingers the longest.
The problems I find are any coins etc on edge or tilted, and then when there is nearby junk which can skew up the readings.

Remember the those were quick air tests - I haven't dug a silver quarter with the Vision yet. Yet so far, I been hitting a couple new spots since I got the Vision, so it seems that the older silver quarters and dimes are not common in these areas. Be a matter of time before I swing the Vision in some of my older areas where I have dug up silver. It's just I trying some new local areas close by that I haven't tried in the past at all. Maybe not very productive, but if I don't detect these areas, I'll never know the good & or bad.

I have tried the Hi-Pro a couple times but only for very short periods.
This evening I used the Hi-Pro exclusively for the duration of the hunt, almost an hour and a half. Man, that is one audio busy program where I hunted. I wanted to switch back to my coin & jewelery mode but I stuck it out. I ended up with .62 cents. If I stick to using it more often, maybe I'll get more used to it. I think I hit a kind of trashy area.

I hope you don't misunderstand me, that is just the program I like using and I'm not saying it should be for everyone. The factory Hi-Pro is very close to the modified DFX program I used for many years and became very used to. I always ran the DFX a bit on the hot side, believing I was getting maximum depth. I have heard the Coin and Jewelry is also a great program as is most of all of the factory programs.
