Larry and or Nancy............. Question please

What is the major difference in MXT Pro and Standard MXT.. I guess I am asking is their one single thing that will make it produce better in more areas...

Several new things on the Pro but none that makes it find more or go deeper unless you consider the extra depth with the Super 12" coil in mild ground, but you can put the 12" on the regular MXT too. The Pro has a backlight and a ground grab button for instant Ground balance updates. The same 7 tone ID that is on the M6 and Matte Black paint. Other little things were changed, but nothing significant. There is not much White's can do to get more depth from the MXT/M6/DFX family.

have to update for accurate GB..Does the Pro and for that matter does the standard actually Track...Or is that because DD coils require a little closer tolerance on GB to work properly ???.

Most of us don't have much of a use for the Ground Grab Elton, I think it is used primarily in prospecting in ground that that is very "hot" and changing where Locktrac is used. The MXT has one of the best Ground Tracking systems on the market and that is what makes it ideal for the weekend prospector, relic hunter and coinshooter alike. For those who hunt with tracking locked, it is just a button push to update the ground balance instead of pumping the coil. Here is what White's has to say about it:

Ground Grab: Provides a convenient way to update ground tracking from a locked setting, or from a tracking setting, temporarily lock ground tracking for multiple passes over questionable signals.

I can see where those who hunt with tracking on would benefit from temporarily lock tracking when investigating a deep questionable target because the tracking is so fast it could track the target out, but I think many users will GB and lock it in ground that does not change much.

I have not read the manual, so someone with the manual or who use the MXT Pro might be able to add more to the conversation. Pro users.......what say you?

Elton, I'm not going to get the new MXT Pro. I feel the "new" features wouldn't matter for the way I hunt and also with our soil here in Illinois. It's a good machine, but I justify spending the money for something that has a few more bells and whistles that I wouldn't even utilize. JMHO and HH, Nancy

Well I can add my two cents into this, the tones added I can't really speak on since I never have owned an older MXT but I do like them :clapping:, the backlight I do find myself using from time to time when and I am sure I will be using it more as winter approaches and the days get shorter. The ground grab feature though I really do like, I hunt primarily in relic mode with the tones in mixed mode and when I get a deep quiet target with no VDI reading that I want to listen to I just have to hit the ground grab button and I can make as many passes over the target as I want without having it balanced out by the machine. Of course someone with an MXT could just lock the ground like Larry said and it would do the same thing. I haven't had a chance yet to do any prospecting with this machine but I can see updating the ground balance at the touch of a button being a nice feature.

I just joined the world Of MXT Users................ I now have the unit in hand. Before that, and, I wrote this post request, I didn't understand it had locking on the Detector for ground track.. When I saw that it cleared up for me why you would want fast grab..

Thanks Guys,
EL

Welcome to the MXT club Elton........:clapping:

Congratulations on your new machine Elton. You're going to love it! Welcome aboard. HH, Nancy

Elton, I generally pump the coil several times as per instructions, then when the GB is stable lock it. This is on the standard MXT. From time to time, especially if I've moved a fair distance from the original balancing, I repeat the process. If the standard model had "ground grab" that;s where it would be handy for me.

thank you all for the welcome and the answers

Elton, first off glad you picked the mxt it's an awesome machine I have the regular mxt and I wouldn't have anything else except maybe the new pro but I just got mine this year and even though I wouldn't mind the tones I've got use to this one enough that I can live without the new features.
If you like reading I would suggest you pick up the mxt edge book by Jeff Foster it cost about 25 bucks but worth every penny a lot of it is technical and will take time to understand but there's also some good advice and tips that will advance you so much faster and that alone is worth the price of the book.
Good luck with your new toy I'm sure you'll enjoy it for many years I know I consider mine part of the family now. lol
