If you want larger coils for the Infinium, 50 orders are need for one production run.

The 18" mono story

Hi there all! Very Happy
At 4:30 pm today i spoke to Phil our distrubutor in australia and was quite shocked at what he said to say the least!
There has been in the past by many infinium owners requests for bigger coils like the 18" mono coil. Some time back you were asked whether you really wanted one (18" mono) and i was interested to find out just how many people wanted them and what sort of response Phil got and why we were still discussing this seemingly endless subject and why it has'nt been put to rest by a production run? Well....apparently Garrett in America have researched this and are of the opinion that there are not enough people wanting them according to what Phil said on the phone. That was'nt the thing that shocked me.....what shocked me is when the question was asked some time back only 7 PEOPLE in the WHOLE WORLD WANTED ONE and 10 people would consider it!!!
Well.....after chatting with Phil he said building them was'nt the problem but infact he would need to sell at least 50 to do a production run at a cost of about $440AUD for each person wanting one.
The other thing is he would need a deposit of about 60% to cover his production cost.If any of you out there including our friendly American/Canadian/European friends etc really want another coil its as simple as that!!!Send a cheque/payment for the deposit and we can put this to rest!!!! Very Happy

That's about it in a nut shell. if you want a bigger mono for the Infinium then direct your expressions of interest to www.goldminingcentre.com.au

An 18" mono coil for the infinium woul be great, but $400? Thanks anyway.

Nuggetfinder coils are just as expensive, and they're the most popular.

Hah, hah.... well I was one of the original seven... But at this time there was some
coinhunters on the forum that were negative... However, I was able to purchase
from Phil both of the 10-inch West Coils... one a DD and the other the mono...
There was a third... the "chip chaser" but I did not buy it... IOnly a few were
made... I understand that I bought the first of each DD and mono that was made...

My original "test" Infinium is at Garrett being modded to accept the Monoloops...
One thing for sure, Melinda Harper, customer service, is positive and very
knowlegeable.

Yes i know!
I wrote a letter to Mr Garrett about 4 days ago telling him we need a 18" mono and as yet no reply but i will keep pestering them!
Regards
aurum seeker

Well i am still waiting to hear from "carolp@garrett.com".
I am optomistic that i will get a reply shortly and i am hoping they will change there opinion of a need for a bigger coil.I understand that if you don't have a need for a coil this size than it might sound expensive. But as i described in my letter to Carol at Garrett , faced with a choice of a bigger coil at $440 AUD or $6,000AUD for you know what!!!......well....$440 is a bargain!
I still find it perplexing that they "just don't get this solution "to "increase infinium sales" and "attract more customers" into buying there machines. It would give them an enourmous edge in the market as this "small coil issue" seems to be the only serious hand brake at least in Australia because of the aggressive competion of the other brand with bigger coils.
I also pointed out that the state of Victoria in Australia did not have a single Garrett dealer in the entire state!
I also made comments to the fact that while the "Golden Triangle" in Victoria was one of the biggest nugget producing areas in the world where we really could REALLY let an 18' coil stretch it"s legs that there was'nt a Garrett dealer in the whole state!
I must confess........I am perplexed?....So are many other infinium users all over the world.
So if you want to end this strange situation i suggest that you email carolp@garrett.com and tell her why you need a bigger coil.
PLEASE:ausflag:

Just recieved a letter from Carol Pritchard from Garrett stating that she has recieved my letter and that she will pass a copy of this letter to MR GARRETT HIMSELF and also to the engineering dept.
Hopefully someone there will twig that this could be a HUGE SELLER for them and will make this detector even better and more attractive than it already is.

I would like a larger coil also...but remember this.... that the bigger the coil the larger item has to be to be detected. And I'm speaking about the Infinium not the Minelabs. The Infinium with that big of a coil will have to have a nugget about 1 gram in size to be able to detect it, or bigger maybe. The Minelabs however are a different deal. With an 18" on the 4500 it will still get a .1 gram of gold. That is a piece of enginnering but WAY out of my price.

I hope Garrett will improve upon the Infinium to keep up. I'll take improvments on sensitivity and depth rather than a larger coil. Minelabs get crazy depth on small gold. This is where the Infinium looses sales in my opinion, as there are more smaller gold out there than the big stuff.

Alan

Yes....i can i can see your point bearkat4160.However with neither better sensitivity or a bigger coil we are really behind the eight ball!
There is is no arguement there....but.....a coil i believe is an easier project to undertake. The area near where i live has had HUGE NUGGETS found there and when i say huge i mean HUGE.Many have been found in the double digit / triple digit oz's! The biggest ever found weighed in at 2,195 ounces!!!
So i agree with you .....but even if MR GARRETT made it more sensitive both would still be very handy.
Cheers

Point taken bearkat, It would be good if it was more sensitive as well, but they will never be able to make it as sensitive as the minelabs and I think there's no point of competing in that field. You will be better off getting a second hand GP which by now, say an Extreeme, would fetch about the same price as an Infinium, it's more sensitive and will go deeper because of the coil options. This is for prospecting. Even an SD 2100 is more sensitive with a small coil.

I believe that a larger coil may be able to compete with minelabs with large coils, that would be interesting.

Aurum seeker, if you can't afford a 4500, get an SD, they say that they go deeper on larger targets than GP's and are much cheeper. I believe there might be merrit to this since I have owned a 2000 myself. - IF Garrett don't come out with a large coil.

Coming from the large nugget state, I can imagine it to be frustrating that you can't use a large coil. My patience would have run out. I myself use the Infinium for water detecting but would love a big coil so I can have a reason to use it for detecting.

Don't get me wrong, you can take it to areas in WA and find good gold, but you'l be much better off even with an SD 2200.

Interesting points Infiniumexplorer...

Seems that Garrett CANT make the machine more sensitive now because it will go NUTS in the surf, and the surf issue to me is now there achilles heal for improving it. The beach users have complained alot to Garrett about it being noisy there. But if you look in the new Garret catolog it is advertised as a "prospecting machine". Not an all rounder machine. Mainly prospecting and DIVING. The surf to me is for the Sea Hunter Mark II, even though the Infinium will do fine there if there isnt too much electrical problems.

I know the Aussie folks could use a bigger coil as they have bigger nuggets and more vast nugget fields down there. Where i am are smaller nuggets and would miss most them with a big coil with a machine that isnt that sensitive compaired to minelabs. Compared to regular beach PI's its WAY more sensitive than those machines.

I would rather have a land only Infinium with added sensitivity. Maybe called the Infinium 2 LD (land) or just Infinium LD. I know they could do that with a litte tweeking.

Alan

Yes.....It seems so obvious to me.....SEA HUNTER FOR BEACH AND SEA....INFINIUM FOR PROSPECTING ON LAND AND FRESH WATER.
Make the electronics more sensitive , a bigger coil and everybody is happy!:ausflag::jump:
