hey.. ive been a gold prospector for awhile but im really interested in hunting for meteorites now. ive been reading up about steve arnold who found the big one in kansas and i wanted to know how or where to get plans to build a large metal detector to be pulled by a 4-wheeler for large fields and what not. anyone with any information or know of any websites that could help me would be awsome.. thanks

Dan

Don't know how much you want to spend, but check out the Lorenz Deepmax X3 system or the chaeper one Pulse Star II Pro. Kellyco has them listed. (maybe deeper then you want to go)

I'm not sure, but won't just about any good detector work if you rig up a large square coil, say 40" by 40" ??? If you could see how the coil wires go to the detector then you could wire up your own. Anyone else on this?

i checked thos kellyco items.. phew!! they aint cheap lol

yea thats basically what i was wondering.. if i could buy a big coil but what about the actual detector box. cause i wanted to just build a big coil.. attached to something else id build to pull across large farming fields. the actual device would need to go at least 10 ft deep tho as far as detection and im sure that is gonna cost.. im way new to this.. im just trying to get info while i learn up on meteorites and how they come to be where they are lol. it sounds so fun and id love to put in the hours hunting for something thats literally "out of this world" and maybe even fetch a shinny penny lol. thx for the info so far and anyone please continue to input ur advice.

Have you considered modifying a two box? You may be able to find one cheap on ebay.

hi mr.dan, i saw a fella last year on the travel channel's " best places to find treasure" series who was using a standard metal detector to find meteorites. i think that's the name of it, he was apparently doing quite well with it, doing it for a living! also shown in the clip was a pull behind detector a guy had built in the 1930's, and was having good luck with it. interesting what the ground in our deserts in nevada, utah, etc. hold in the way of meteorites. hh,

yea i know exactly what ur talking about.. the show is called "cash and treasures".. (its a good show lol) but any who it was a two part episode first part with steve arnold and his pull behing detector, which he pulled behing a 4-wheeler (which i wanna build) and some otehr guys just using a regular metal detector to find little ones. but i live in country of maryland with TONS of friendly farmers that would love to let me to detect on their big fields. im sure i could find myself a nice big meteorite about 6 feet down lol. at least in a year or so i think i feel id def find one.

... hey bryan whats a two box?
