Large coil for coins question

kickback

New member
There is an old resort/bar/dance hall/youth camp/bible camp site that I hunt.It had lots of people there in the early 1900's.Just before the ground froze up I was out there hunting with a buddy. He got a wheatie at 6 1/2 inches. When he rechecked the hole he got a faint hit.Another 7 inches deep out comes a rare bar token(for this area). He dug another token out of a hole after digging a Rosie. The token was about 13 to 14 inches deep.He got a faint twitch of a signal with his Whites detector in the hole after he dug the Rosie. He made the hole larger so he could get his coil down in it.
My question is could a larger than stock coil WOT or SEF 15X18 hit this deep layer of goodies? The ground is mineralized with alkali. The soil is fairly sandy so digging isn't tough. The deepest coin I've dug there so far was a 1926 S Mercury dime at 9 1/2 inches deep(semi key date,I think).Thanks.Bill

the deepest coins iv ever dug have been dimes @ 15".that is with my GT and S12 coil on the beach.i dont use the big coil inland as there is too much trash and hard to seperate good targets from bad ones.i like the S8" inland but you do loose some depth over the S12. 10" on a dime with the S8 is about max.if you dont mind digging everything a big coil has a deeper advantage.good luck.
