Got me a new etrac got out today no silver but a 1849 large cent to bad somebody drilled a hole in top Thanks for lookin

More than likely the hole is there for one of two reasons.
Either they had the coin sewn on their clothes for keepsake or it was used as a pendant.
Regardless good find...:clapping:

I'd be happy with a large cent any day.

They're as rare as hen's teeth around here.

Sure beats finding a new penny. At least it is warm enough for you to hunt...Nice Find!!!

not to warm but ground is thawed 29 today with 15mph north wind

Wow, you are definitely a trooper. Any issues operating the E-Trac in that temperature? I thought I read somewhere the LCD display may not work too well under 32 degrees...

Thats good, because our temperatures are as cold as yours & I don't think I could wait more than a week to try this puppy out..

The hole just adds a more personal feel to it, could have been a CW soldiers coin or something as there have been numerous coins with holes found on battlefields and in campsites. Great find, I hope to find one soon!

Can be this: It was a way of identifying livestock ownership. The coin was attached to the ear of the cattle/cow. Also many colonists sewed their coins to the inside of there jackets to prevent robbery or for the reason clothes were not made well back then and pockets often ripped open losing the contents. Nice personal touch with the hole.

Th E-Trac was designed to operate in 32 to 122 degree temperatures. Anything much below 32 and the LCD screen will slow down and almost stop. Funny though...the STORAGE range is -32 to 175 F.
