Lanyard question

Does anyone have any advice on how to fabricate a lanyard for hunting in the surf? Also, do you connect it to the scoop or the detector? I've read where folks use one to let the scoop trail away from the detector, but also where people tether the detector to free their hands and make digging easier.

i would do both sometimes u need two hands to lift or shake the scoop....and u dont want to lose your scoop

Weight belt with two D rings. I assume you have your detector machine mounted otherwise its connected to you by the cable. In that case just make sure you TIE off the cable so it dont pull at the box or coil. I used a cable clamp on my scoop, nylon cord with a large connector that snaps on and off the D rings quickly. Zip tie on the detector..... but mine floats as well. Safety first... with the weight belt if you get in trouble out there they just pop off. You can get more equipment.... but cant get another U. Also you can clip a couple of the sections on the weight belt and makes a secure place for valuable finds.

Take a 1/4 inch rope about 3 to 4 ft.long ,tie one end onto your detector and then put a lope in the other end and attach it to your wrist. This way you can let your detector go and your hands are free to work with your scoop.when you are done with your scoop just pull up the wope and there is your detector. HH Ron Lord

My detector shaft has a ring behind the arm rest and I clip this quick disconnect to it which is secured to my wader belt by way of a poly cord.

Makes life easier all around as I don't have to worry about jettisonong the detector in a pinch and it is easy to hook up when I'm going into the water.

I got it at a boat/marine outlet.

I have been using supplies found on the beach for tethers. Those boogie board leashes that get detached or left on the beach with part of a board when a board gets broken. Some are found ripped and no good; some are very usable. The velcro wrist strap is used just like it would be for the board. The other end gets looped or tied to either the scoop or detector. One tether per wrist. One for detector, other for scoop.
