Lanyard for the CTX

jerseyjim

New member
I want to buy a retractable Lenard for the CTX when I go water hunting. I was looking on line, I can't seem to find anything that looks decent. Can someone help me out?

The underwater headphones are screwed on to the CTX. I figure as long as the detector doesn't pull them off my head I have a leash.

I don't want to take a chance, I got knocked down more than once. I almost lost a good surf rod to a wave that caught me on my blind side. The ocean can be tricky, you can be caught off guard if you are in the surf zone.
, .

Maybe one of those leashes I see people using out walking their pets that extend and retract. Might be able to hook it thru one of the small holes on the side with a small carabiner. Just an idea.

the minelab pro 45 harness would solve this as well as help with the weight of the machine

I tried the harness. I returned it, I found it to be to bulky. The dog leash might be worth looking into. Thank you
Jim

I hope you find something that'll work for you! Maybe the handle on the dog leash could be altered or customized a bit to work better. Maybe there's something better on google though, good luck!

I found some decent ones on the Cabela's web site. They are in the fishing section, if anybody is interested.

I once saw a retractable lanyard that chamber maids use for their keys? That might work.

That sounds Ike a great idea!

Be Careful in those ruff waters, special jersey shores. I hit the ruff waters once and awhile in OCMD when the tide is low and calmer but it is a very small window of time. I try and getting out beyond the breaks which can help but I hate to say I would never take My CTX out there, only the small coiled CZ20 or Excalibur. Good Luck and Be Safe.

Maybe just a simple length of garden type rope is the answer. Tie it to your belt loop and the CTX?

You might want to rethink what is more important, you or your machine. True no one wants to loose there machine but as you said

things can get out of hand with no notice, if all that happens is you get knocked around but are able to recover them a leash might

not be such a bad idea but lets take it to a higher level. Instead of just getting slam dunked you find yourself in a rip tide! Now you

have a whole lot more to worry about than loosing your detector, and don't kid yourself it can ,has, and will happen again, to someone,

maybe you maybe not but +++++ . Anyone who hunts the surf when there are breaking waves, or an area that can form a rip ( in the

ocean or gulf this can happen at anytime or place ) them should wear a PFD ! This is the one I have and use but there are other's

out there that are more or less the same, that do not hamper your movements, weigh next to nothing and can save your life, but

only if you buy one and wear it. In a strong rip the last thing anyone needs is a leash on there detector to get tangled around there

legs or arms. Think about it ! I did, and if, push comes to shove, the crabs can have my detector if need be,

Jim, Google kayak fishing rod leashes. There are few ways to make them and a few more commercially available.

I made my first ones using old cell phone charge cables, swedges, and some clips.

Second set used light bungee cord inside of the hollow webbing with clips on the ends. Like the Hobie rod leash.

You will get the idea.
