Hello all. I've been using a Land Ranger pro with the stock 11" DD Coil since June. I am aware that one of the characteristics of this detector is it's not too accurate in the nickle range and will almost give out a jumpy reading in that zone. My detector certainly does that. But it also does this on higher readings. As you know when you first go over a target the first reading you get is usually not too accurate and that you need to zero in on the target doing multiple passes until the numbers basically get more steady to get an idea of it's conductivity.
As for my detector, it's a very often occurrence for the first reading to be vastly different from the later readings. For example; when I go over a target the first reading my say 76 first ---> sweep. Return sweep <----- it would say 43. Second ----> swing it would say 24. Second return <---- sweep it would further drop to 19. Third ----> sweep it would be 16. And Third <----- sweep it would be 14. All subsequent sweeps the target will then read in the iron range. Causing me to reject it and move along. This happens all the time and it make for a rather tiresome hunt as you are stopping all the time to check these potentially good signals that move to iron range after a few additional sweeps. I use all metal mode with sensitivity usually at 8 and only bring it up when I come across a nice sounding target to further check it out. It does this on both my sites.
Would purchasing a quality after market coil like NEL make the reading a little less jumpy and accurate? Thanks.
