Lake Loot-Tenacious Perseverence Overcomes Adversity

Gulf Hunter

Active member
Arose at 5am for my journey to the lake on monday morning. Got in the water around 730am and launched the brig. Arrived at the treasure hole and began hunting around 8am. The 1st spot I stopped at was lame and full of pull-tabs. Moved in about 1.5-2 hours. Then the treasure was coming pretty steady. Around 2pm the Excal started operating irratically, but I was still signalling targets, so I hunted on. The unit was diagnosed by coastwise and Max as operator error. Did not charge my nicads like a good pirate would. A good pirate would have also had backups which I did not. Kept hunting until the unit would not run anymore around 4pm. Got in the brig, hauled ass to the ramp to get the Mark II (a good pirate would also have brought a backup unit in the brig to the hole, I did not) Hauled back to the hole with the pi, knowing that I was in for brutal torture hunting in this trash infested area. Began the scan around 430pm and I did ok with it. Was only digging the short snappy targets and only dug a couple of ferrous targets. The nut is the total with both units. The clad take was 25 quarters, 23 dimes, 10 nickels and 42 pennies-$9.47. This area has produced between $9 & $10 for 3 hunts now. Have seen hunters on the beach, but not the water. Jewelry finds include a non-ferrous childs junk broken ring, a non-ferrous small junk hoop, a Warner Bros. non-ferrous alien necklass charm, a nice bracelet that is stamped "ARMBRUST" on the attachment links. Researched the company and they look to be fairly high end. There is no .925 stamp though, so I put some silver test acid on it and it held, so I guess we'll put it in the silver treasure chest. The prize was found by the Excal, before I ran outa juice, it is a 14k band and is 4.8 grams. Huntress still has me beat with hers from last week at 8.4 grams 14k. It was a nice day at the lake. Gave it up around 630pm. I learned a valuable lesson today!
P.S.-Huntress did not take a picture of total junk take, so ya'll can't really appreciate what it took to get the good targets.
