Lake Hunt Video

New member
Yesterday I went detecting at a lake here in California. The air temperature was about 44 degrees when I went into the water and about 48 degrees when I left. I know that this would be a heat wave for some of you but it was pretty cold to me after about 4 hours in the water. Sorry for the poor sound quality on the video but you can just turn down the audio and read the captions if you'd like.

I was a little disappointed not to find anything of significance but I got some good practice with the Excal II, new scoop and video camera so it was a productive day anyway. HH!

Thanks for posting good to see someone is able to go out and dig.
Good clad finds !

Good Hunt and Excellent video - the sound quality, what was that noise, sounded like a motor running. What is your strainer basked made of, I know you have a pool noodle attached to something, I like it, with it being deep you don't have to worry with it tipping over. I woul like to make a similar one if you could let me know about the basket part I would appreciate it. Thanks for sharing the video, put up some more, I love watching these. I just purchased a Tachyon mini helment camera that I am going to start using for my hunts. I hope to be going to the coast this weekend and if I get too I will post a video next week of the trip. Thanks again for the video and info on your strainer. Bootyhunter

Nice video
If you work in pinpointing(all metal) will be better in your finds(yes, too a lot of garbage but your finds will not disapointment)

Thanks, Looks like we have the same camera. The camera is waterproof and so the sound is poor when the waterproof cover is closed. The "hum" occurs when I crank up the volume in the editing stage. I'm still working on it though. The basket is just a wastepaper basket that I bought at IKEA or someplace similar years ago. HH!

Enjoyed your video, look like you have pin pointing down to a science. I usually have to make several scoop attempts to get my treasure.

Nice video...looks like the kind of stuff I usually find... like that scoop looks like its pretty lightweight

You did a great job on the video and narrating....very detail! Job well done. You should like into a software....the one I showed you! ;)

Steve, Your post made me realize that it looked like I got the target on the first scoop each time but that was because of my editing in order to keep the video short. In fact, very rarely did that happen. Pinpointing wasn't so much the problem as much as the dense sand and rocks that I encountered there. It probably took me an average of 3-4 scoops each signal. In areas where the bottom is more sandy I can usually retrieve the object in 1 or 2 scoops. Thanks for pointing that out, I don't want to mislead anyone. HH!

So why buy an Excalibur only to use it in all metal mode like a PI ?
PI detectors are deeper and cheaper.

Personally hunting the salt water beaches I find the discriminate mode detects deeper than the pinpoint mode.
On numerous occasions I have gotten a faint high tone that pinpoint could not detect.
Perhaps my Excalibur II is defective.

Thanks for the reply, I was beginning to think that I was very bad with my scooping technique. I really enjoyed the video. It really helps for us folks that are snowed and iced in.

Great video!!

I like the minelab just for the multiple tones for identifying..............I had a ml safari......does the excal 2 have the same multi tones ? Im thinking of buying one

Thanks. I've never used a Safari but the Excal II definitely produces many different sounds. Perhaps someone who has used both can compare the 2 detectors. HH!
