Knob on Excal

John(Tx)

New member
Has anyone ever taken the knobs off the excal and applied electrical silicone on the O rings to make the knobs turn easier? thanks for any info. John

I don't think it would help to much because you have 2 other O-rings give resistance also. But I do think it would help prolong the top O-rings life, seems this is the first to go on the Excalibur.

Thanks for the info. These knobs are just so hard to turn, especially the power/threshold knob, afraid I will strip it out one of these days. HH

I just got these and they are great!

While all the post above work. Just remember bigger equals more torque. When you tighten those little brass screws they DON"T allow the knobs to slip! Good right, NO! When you reach the stops you can over tighten and ruin the pot! The Minelab design allow for the knob to slip if you are hasty and turn too fast or wrong direction while hunting. Excaliburs take a long time to fix so be careful!
Give you machine some time to be new before long you be saying the knobs move to freely I can't keep it set.

I have the aftermarket ones with the brass screws. There is enough give to let them slip, especially the pinpoint knob which gets the most action.

I bought a used 1000, and in short order ruined the on/off threshold pot by over torquing. Motto is be gentle. Its an expensive mistake and a long wait time.

brass centres. on these new knobs. Ordered two sets.

Just bought a new excal serious coin. Went to turn on detector the knob disintegrated right in my hands. Serious lack of quality. I hope the rest of the machine is better than the knobs
