Knee pads......

Just wondering what knee pads can be recommended. I have used some of the "cheaper" styles that you get at the Local Home Depot but they just don't hold up well. Input appreciated.

I just picked up a nice pair with the "professional" grade heavy duty thick frons from Harbor Freight for about 11 bucks...a similar set sells at Menards for almost 30 bucks. One of the big selling points on this set was the thicker/wider neoprene type straps in the back....don't get a set with thin and narrow straps because they will dig and rub into the back of you knee.

I use the ones the Army gave me when I deployed to Iraq. You might look on Ebay or in surplus stores. I'm sure there's a lot of them floating around.

I agree, used them and they are tough as nails!

I picked mine up at a contractor plumbing/electrical supply store.High quality professional grade and very comfortable.

They are mighty hard to find but from my old boat building days I remembered these wonderful kneepads we used. They were heavy leather with thick wool felt padding and were hinged with pivot points on the edges. They attached with leather straps and buckles. Don't have a picture right now but I finally found another pair at a real industrial surplus outlet a while back. Hands down the most comfortable knee pads I've ever used.

My wife actually likes the cheapies from the big box with the plastic caps and elastic/velcro straps. Ahh, personal preferences.

I use rollerblade knee protectors......they are tough and protect well.....but don't like the way the elastic bands cut into the back of my knees. The elastic bunches. To the point where it breaks the skin & I bleed. Kinda painful. Anyone have a recommendation on knee pads that don't do that.

If you do a search on Amazon.com you'll find tons of kneepads. I like straps with buckles but Velcro straps aren't bad. I don't like the cheap solid foam rubber ones with the single strap.

One idea I'm thinking about is just hooking a kneeling pad on my belt with a c clip and tossing it on the ground to kneel on. Might be more comfortable then pads.

I made some from a worn out pair of Lacrosse Alpha Burly boots. These are soft, flexiable neoprene. They won't have the protection of the hard plastic type but they have good protection and you won't have that "wet knee" and camo blends in with some of the clothes I wear

Sailorman, that's exactly what I do. But you have to be careful and not put the pad down on a goathead thorn because it will stick right through the foam! Onus

I like these softball knee pads. Maybe on the thin side but, easy to put on.
I use them to wrap around my detector display when not in use.

I use cheapo ones from like lowes or depots gardening dept. Ive gotten several years out of the ones I have, and I detect almost everyday of the week. Being foam they are very lite, Used to only use only one but now using two, it encourages me to go on all fours instead of kneeling on one knee which was getting to my back. CO
