Kinda bored today - then I remembered my BH 1100

So I'm sitting around the house, bored out of my mind - our BBQ plans fell through. Then I got to thinking, I'd really like to got MD'ing. There isn't anywhere around here that I know of (El Paso, TX) to go, so I figured I'd go out in the back yard.

I took my 1100 that I haven't touched in about 2 years. In about 10 minutes I found about 10 nails and screws and three pennys. That's no big deal. What impressed me is the fact that I didn't change the battery in the machine from the last time I used it. The 9 volt was just fine after almost 2 years sitting there.

Just thought I'd share (cause I'm generous and very bored, LOL.)

They will keep for quite a while if stored in a dry place, and no current drain on them...In the wrong environment, Batts left in your machine can cause serious damage when they leak...
If your not going to use your machine for longer than about a month, remove the batteries. I leave the batts in my Land Star, but remove the pack from my White's after each hunt...I find the AAs will leak easier than the 9V.

HH,

I know for a fact that leaving batt's in a device can cause damage - I've seen it myself. But like you said, it's really only gonna be an issue with moisture. And really, I've only experienced leaking (of the damage causing variety) a few times, and only in flashlights, never with a 9 volt.

Here in El Paso, even with the seasonal monsoon rains (yes, it does rain in the desert), we don't have to worry much about moisture. I will be leaving for Iraq in a couple months. I'll be sure to remove the batt's from all my stuff.
