By the river there is an area where people can pay to park their campers, I know the area is public property but since the people pay to use it is it like their little area? can they tell me not to detect there?

I would have to say yes, if you were detecting an occupied space, otherwise, no

I say go for it...

I have not had a problem yet but if someone ever does say something I like to know I am right before I say "this is public property I can detect here if I want to"

I would say it depends on who actually owns the property - if it's the city, it probably falls under the same rules as public parks. If it's private land, like all the places around here like that, then you'd technically have to get permission from the landowner. Either way, it would probably be best to be courteous and only hit the unoccupied spaces.

the whole area is called River side park, it includes the playground, benches, places for people to barbaque, and the place for the campers to park, and of course the river.

[size=large]Common Courtesy! Would you like someone doing it next to your camper? Pick Nick Table your using?

you don't need to yell at me about it, I was just making sure about my rights to hunt there incase someone started yelling at me for hunting around the area.

Cassiekarimom some people don't realize that all capitol letters is like, hollering. Jer

[size=medium]If your talking about me! Who was yelling? I find it easier on my eyes!

If you came swinging through my camp, I would think your about as rude as they come! Some people would through rocks at you or sic there dog on you! Common Courtesy is all people ask!

I did not realize you can yell on a key board! Must be some new fanged hidden mike on this thing!

Dude! it's a public park. You may be able to hunt the park , but you have to consider the occupants as well!

I see little problem as long as you hunt the open, unoccupied areas not being used while you hunt and as long as there are no signs against detecting. My two bits,

The worst that can happen is the owner(s) ask you not to. Doubt that you'd get arrested or shot for it.

I hunt alot of public places, I try to stay out of people's way and not crowd anyone. People will ask questions. It helps to be polite and show them a pouch-full of sharp junk. I started keeping a kitchen-sized trash bag handy and will pick up cans, bottles etc.

When people see that you are removing trash, they lean toward appreciating your presence as opposed to resenting it.

I see MDing as a legitimate recreational activity, like fishing or kicking a soccer ball and agree with the thought that there's nothing for us to be ashamed of in enjoying it!

I tell alot of people, "Most days I don't find too much, but it helps pay for the batteries and gets me off of the couch!"

As long as you're careful digging and respectful, very few people (if any) will have a problem with you being there.

Have fun!

yesterday when I was detecting at the house across the street some people came to look at it and they asked me what I was doing and I told them I was detecting and that I had been taking out everything I find good and bad and showed them my bag of garbage that I had gotten and they were surprised all that stuff had beeen under the ground.

I'm one of those people who park a 5 th wheel. I usually hunt when I camp. In a city park like you describe I hunt the play areas, open areas, beach, and boat ramp. I'd never hunt an occupied site and never had a problem. You really don't need to bother the paying customers and draw attention to yourself. I've also stayed in some state parks where the area is off limits. HH Rob
