Key west Florida??????????

JOE in MD

New member
Well the wife says she wants to go to Key West in June, I don't argue when she's decided. LOL We have never been there and would like to know if detecting is permitted and where if possible.
Thanks

I don,t know about detecting but have been told that time of year it is so hot you can,t walk on the beach. Good Luck Flintstone

My wife and I have been to Key West several times before I started detecting. We always saw people dry sand detecting, but not in the water. The beach areas are not very big, but it's worth a try. Good luck.

Having lived in the Keys I would say go prepared for seriously hot weather first off. Not as bad as the mainland but still hot. While it will be off season be prepared for seriously expensive prices like you can't imagine. You can detect "beaches" which are areas that have trucked in sand for the tourists to play in and hope for some recent drops. The Keys are primarily mangrove based islands and have very few true beaches. If it's a park make sure it's not state or federal.

Remember that Keys law enforcement have NO sense of humor and be respectful if you bump into them. Dealing with all the drunks, druggies, weirdos, freaks and partiers can do that to a person.

Keep an eye on the tropical weather forecast. That's pretty early in the season but it pays to keep an eye open for hurricanes.

Watch out for pick pockets, there's always some working the square and the bars.
