Kennedy half watch face ?

Dancer

Well-known member
So I got the watch apart. The half has been machined down to the thickness of a dime. (Machine marks on back) Of course it's not ferrous. Seems his hair is slightly worn. But why would someone machine down a silver clad half, to use in a cheap watch ? Maybe more value in a watch than sold as scrap. Maybe it's stainless, but just doesn't look or feel like it. Weights 3.5 dwt , which seems right.
Anyway, until I turn in in my scrap ???

Dancer I do not think that is a real half in your watch. It's a milled copy to look like a Kennedy half If I remember correctly. it was coated with a shiny coating for great looks..

Years ago they were sold in magazines etc. as a Kennedy memorial sort of thing. Of course you may have found one made by the Franklin mint . It's possible they made a run. Then it may well be a real honed Kennedy half dollar.

Look up Franklin mint on google..See if they made a real Kennedy half dollar watch..

Elton, I'm pretty sure your right. It just isn't cost effective to mill down a half for this watch. And that shiny coating you mentioned, well looks like the ticket.
But as they say in Bingo, " Hold your cards"

Oh man it sounded like I was raining on your Parade..Not meant to be that way on my post.

I meant to make it clear I saw some years ago that were made for sale in Magazines and were not real half dollars.

There were also some made that did have a Real Half dollar..I listed one in the post.. Yours may be the real deal....

Cool find regardless...neat that you took it apart to have a look and let us know what you discovered...:clapping:
