kellyco coils

Has anyone tried these coils do they work on the V3 or are they just another way to sell coils?

The SEF coils are good coils...however, one important thing they do not tell about their coils is you CANNOT use BOOST with them. If you do you will get a constant overload. I learned this the hard way.

I was about to order now I won't ...Thank you for the heads up:clap: its useless for me not to get the full potential, I will stick with the whites coils. I paid top of the line price for the spectra so I want top of the line coils

Just to clarify, You CANNOT USE BOOST IF YOUR RX GAIN IS ALL THE WAY UP. I can use the boost with my RX Gain anywhere below 10. (Not that I ever do use TX Boost, but if I wanted to I could).

I got an SEF 12"x10" at the end of the year last year AND IT HAS NOT COME OFF MY V3i SINCE. I LOVE THE COIL. It is quieter at higher gains, gives me more depth, larger swing coverage, and great trash separation.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

I would agree with Neil. They are great coils. The 10x12" will get slightly deeper than the D2, but frequency response in pinpoint is not as accurate. I have used the 15x12" SEF as well. It has great depth especially in single frequency modes.

Whites engineers are currently working on a butterfly style coil that will be v-rated. There is no estimated time of completion.

Thats probably the case with the 10x12 SEF, however its not with my 4x7 SEF no matter how much you adjust the gain. I had bought it over a year and a half ago from Kellyco and it worked great, and never tried boost on it until I switched to a bigger coil and had put the boost on then later on when I put the 4x7 back on I had a overload. I tried everything to fix it and ended up sending it back. They sent me a new one and still had the same overload problem, called them back and talked to my sales guy "Tony" and he asked me: "do you have the boost on?" I told him yes and thats when he told me you cant use boost on the SEF coils. He didnt say it worked on others if you lowered the gain ect.

I would not spend the money to buy a 10X12 if I was already using the D2, but I had one from the DFX days and I use it on the V3i but if I had to buy one expecting better results, I would probably be disappointed. Keep in mind that not all coils off of the production line are not the same, some are better than others and you might get lucky and get a really good one.

I agree with what Larry said. It was recommended by Carl that you should not run a signal percent higher than 30 - 40%. By the way at around 60% the V overloads. In 3 frequency I'm running 46 to 48 at RX 12 with the 10x12. At the same setting my D2 runs around 18%. If I run in single frequency 2.5 or 7.5 the 10x12 reads about the same as the D2. Since I like 3 frequency the 10x12 is not my favorite coil.

I don't think you will see a new coil for the V. If Whites comes out with a new coil it will be when they come out with a new machine.
