Keeping your coil clean.

I have a lot of time on my hands since I have been staying home taking care of my wife after her surgery and haven't been able to get out and do any detecting so I worked on my new SE Pro coil. I have done this to some of my other coils also and it works out really well. This will pertain to all you beach hunters out there also. We all know that it's important to keep the area between the coil cover and your coil as clean as posible and what I do is I get a tube of black silicone caulking and run a good quarter of an inch bead on the inside of your coil cover and then press your coil down on your cover on a hard surface. Before it sets up just wipe off the excess with your finger and then I also take a damp rag and wipe off the remainder to finish off the job. No more messing around having to take your cover off anymore and keeping your coil clean is a snap now. GL & HH to all of you who can get out and swing a coil. Can't tell you how much I want to be out there myself.:detecting:

Good post Eddie. Need to get some things done now. Work is coming early tomorrow.

So that plastic thing on my SE Pro is a coil cover? I just want to make sure before I try and take it off, looks like it could break if you dont take it off right =0

Yes, there is a cover on your coil and it's not very thick and quite flexible, but do be careful when you take it off. Just pry a little bit all the way around and it should come off very easy withou braking it. Some coil covers don't fit very tight and that's how a lot of dirt gets in there between the coil and the cover and that's why I use the silcone trick. HH.

Hi my friend. I did do this on my WOT coil and it works great. Thanks for sharing the info.
Good luck if you get out this weekend.

need to read the silicone label. not all can be applied to plastic or pvc. Eddie, do you recommend and brand? it's a great tip.
you are in the hoods canal area right?

Ive been aware of several sealing methods even putting stuff like RHINO bedliner on the bottom. I prefer to clean my coil cover out evertime i get home, its not such a pain. I understand why you sealed it, but the reason i dont is i put the cover on the coil to protect it. Once ive sealed it then i cant replace it if i need to. Also if i decide to sell it i like to replace the cover.... call me crazy.

If you use the silicone Dew and if you ever want to replace that cover all you have to do is use a sharp knife and carefully slide it between your coil and cover to help break it lose and it will come off pretty easy. I've changed covers in the past and it was no big deal, but hey, I'm not trying to tell you what to do. The silicone works great for me and if you want to take your cover off everytime that you use it to clean it then go for it. HH.

The stuff I'm using now is made by GE called Silicone II. It won't hurt plastic at all. I'm in the middle between Bremerton and Poulsbo and have a Poulsbo address. Looks like you are in from the Kelso area. GL with your SE. HH.

Not a problem Bryce. I like to share my ideas with the fellows on the forum and I see you use the same trick so it can't be all that bad.:clapping: No detecting this weekend, but maybe next week sometime. GL & HH to you if you get out.
