Keeping track of numbers

New member
Does anyone have an easy way that they keep track of the numbers that display and then what is found?

There is one for the coins on the faqfaq area but I think somebody should post one about rings and jewerly. :bouncy:

Buy a cheap MP3 Player that has a built in microphone, and when you locate a target, record the screen ID, and then after recovery the actual description of the target. When you get home you can transcribe it into a spreadsheet or database.

When selecting the MP3 player, look for one that has a protective cover to keep dirt/sand mud off of the player control buttons.

On top of the detector housing is a piece of flat PVC with numbers and pull-tab symbols that correspond to the coinage used in Australia.
It is attached with double sided tape.

Below are little round coloured stickers with the numbers that most often appear on the screen when one of the above coins are detected.

The colours are purely for quick classification. Yellow_ is our $ $ coins and other items of same conductivity. Orange_ is for copper coins and the like.
Blue on the fare right is for silver.

Most of my detected gold rings fall in between the indicated screen numbers of 14 to 24, this also happens to be our 10c 20c and 50 cent coins or one level up the pull-tab range.

I admit my memory is ? ? ?_ _ _ now I have it visually, so I can relax my brain.

The numbers can be changed to suite any currency.

In short, rings and jewelry can (and will) range over most of the TID spectrum. I've found rings and jewelry items with readings as low as a 4 and others as high as a 38. The metallic content, size and shape of the target, mineralization of the soil and "angle" that it is buried will all have an effect on just what TID is provided by a target. I made a few posts pertaining to this topic in the past. Here are a couple of them......

By the way, I have dug a couple additional US coins that I did not have when I posted that coin TID chart. I'm in the process of compiling that information and will be making a new TID chart soon. HH Randy

I have found things all over the chart, several times there will be two targets under the coil at one time and that affects VDI numbers, so I just dig almost everything non ferrous depending on the site I am at.
