Keeping shark disc from flopping in the surf.

First real test in the surf for about an hour last weekend. I had the bolt tight, but the disc pivoted up due to the surge of water from waves (normal waves, not storm waves). I am hoping I can lock it into a steady position and not have to worry about it. I don't want to snap the bolt but wanted to know if anyone else had similar problems and how best to solve it? Thanks

I have the same problem, at times, and just adjust the coil with a slight push or tug with the ole foot. Maybe look around for a Loop Support? I took a quick look at Kellyco and did not see one on their website.

Might try new rubber washers in the lower rod, they get hard and slick with age and lose their ability to grip.

Even with fresh rubber washers the 10 inch coil will flip up in the waves. For me the 8 inch coil stays put even in pretty tough chopping waves. Get a couple of spare nylon bolts and keep them close by just in case you break one and want to stay in the action and not on the road looking for a hardware store.

Try this link for a nicely done holder or stabilizer:

Guys, thanks for the info/tips. I have the 8 inch coil and can probably tighten it some without breaking the bolt, but will get extras in the meantime. tvr, special thanks to you. You have been very helpful with all my questions along the way. I am just now getting to the surf to use the detector, and so far have been very impressed with the sand shark. I may have to build a stabilizer if I can't tighten the bolt properly, but want to try one more time tightening up on the bolt first.
