A couple of day's ago, I detected a nice gold ring and it felt great to find something of worth among all the junk and pull tabs I had to dig through before I got this !! I wanted to start another thread on this site (didn't have any new finds to post in the 'Today's Finds' Forum)!! knowing the moderator would have bumped this thread to this Forum anyway lol!!!!
As much as I am thrilled at finding something like a gold ring, I am also thrilled at being able to just metal detect...period and finding all the other interesting and odd items I find. Whether it be a colorful corkscrew! or seeing the sunrise or enjoying the sunset at the beach is a very satisfying and rewarding experience for me.
I wanted to let everyone know I really enjoy the 'journey' of metal detecting using my skills and past 'on the job' experience! meeting interesting people, the sense of freedom detecting a beautiful beach with no one in site early in the morning before the sun rises. I love the smell of the beach fires and BBQ's in the evenings from the local beach campsites.
This hobby for me is not all about getting the best 'bling' or 'scoring' the best ring etc; even though my post's may sometimes come across like that. It's about the site's, the sounds, the smells and the experience of being a part of an awesome hobby that sometimes rewards me with some very interesting items that someone lost recently or many years ago. I hope to always keep some professionalism for this hobby and I hope to always keep my perspective of this wonderful hobby we all enjoy!

Wow wow wow, Goldstrike, what a beautiful, and thoughtful post. I stared at that last picture for a bit, very nice!! Our hobby let's us connect with the land and sea in a special, grounding kind of way. I used to use the first 30 or so minutes of digging time to sort stuff out in the ol' noggin, but now it's more practicing the eastern philosophy of "being here now".

Perfect! We need these detectors more for an excuse for being outside wandering around unattended........I remember when you found that corkscrew..seems like it was last year or the year before maybe?.
Yes, theres more treasures (blessings?) to be found outside than metal ones if a guy looks for them, I like how you described the different smells and how the day/night unfolds to us.:please:..priceless.

Thanks W.Y. and Mud for those comments! I'm including some pic's of a true California surfer V.W. van that I spotted awhile back at the beach which hopefully will put a smile on your faces!!

Yes, I tell all my friends that it's great therapy for the brain, body, soul/spirit. We are all dealing with issues of one kind or another and metal detecting is a great (and usually cheap) lol! therapy for this purpose. It's usually far cheaper than a gym membership!!
The beach especially is a place of solice and peace and the waves seem to wash away those issue's for a time. Come to think of it, there's also a lot of odd-balls there too:rofl:...I'd better stop here before I sound like a guru or something!! Happy Hunting and Peace:)
P.s. I'm a Conservative family guy & Christian and not a hippy! I just happen to like photography as you all can see:clapping:

Amen Guy's!! It is all well and good fun to strut our finds like bandy chickens scratching dirt and acting big, but all the underling things you guys just brought out are what keeps us going every chance we get.
The separation from the mental "noise" that bombards us every day is therapy that has no price. The connection with what we see, hear, and find is also priceless.
If all ever found were zinc Penny's and pull tabs I would still hunt!!

Great Post. This morning I was privileged to watch the sun rise over the Atlantic Ocean as I searched the sand of the beach. The wind was blowing and the surf was roaring but I was in my own little world. Just wondering what the day would bring and what unusual thing would show in the scoop.

Great pics and gold ring too!

Finding gold and silver as good as that is....is frosting on the cake far as i'm concerned!
Been primarily relic hunting lately in remote areas and its great just to be out there one with nature.... but could do without them #$%^ ticks!

Sometimes i think finding an old corroded iron artifact from a 100+ years ago is personally more precious than finding silver or gold.

Great post GoldStrike and all of the comments. All very well said and totally awesome pics too. I can't understand why other people give MD'ing such a bad rap!

I think many of us from time, to time loose the sight of why we detect. It's always been the "Hobby" for me.
That said. Once in awhile I find myself wrapped up in the "Gotta" Find the most, and best "Goodies" ...... rather than enjoying the Hobby.

Thank you for the reminder of why I like this hobby...
