keene dredge/hookah set up

Wanted to let anyone out there know that if you are thinking of scuba detecting, first you might want to check out the keeneengineering.com site. they have a dredge with a hookah (surface air) unit that i use. personally i like the fact that i don't have to carry with me extra tanks for diving. just a two gallon jug of gasoline. i can stay down for as long as two and a half hours on just one pint. the four inch dredge with 35 foot of hose is plenty and my wife loves to sit on the top waiting for what might come up next. and no this much hose does not impede on the capacity to lift from this distance. two divers at the same time can submerge and detect together. awesome my hats off to you guys at keene.

Yes they do. I own one and I love it. ($2000) I have 2 deep cycle batteries I use one at a time. I have stayed under for 4 hours. Like Joe I enjoy the freedom of zero tanks. I have been under with another diver at the same time. I just put on lead weights and go at it. Your breathing will become labored if the battery starts to lose its charge. It will allow you plenty of time to surface. Mark Keene of Keene Engineering was very helpful and very polite in selling and helping me get the unit serviced in the past. Mark advised me to get diver qualified before I dive with it. My Thing parner is not qualified but I have taught him procedures and I have spare air bottles just to be on the safe side for both of us. The military made me funny like that. YOu do not have to have a divers card in order to buy the unit but it helps to know the how to if you get into the what if situations. Good luck.

This unit is run by a marine battery and powers 3 mini compressors.. Dive time is supposed to last about 4 hrs on a fully charged battery..Have used it for a total of maybe 2 hrs max.. TOO much work, not enough play time......
