jw fisher vs minelab excalibur

hello

I am interested in getting the excalibur or the pulse 8x for my underwater metal detecting. I am new to the underwater detecting so im seeking some advice as which one to get. Also I am wondering how well theses underwater detectors do on land, (not just the beach) as this is where I do most of my detecting. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Paul

The Excal will out perform the Fisher. The 8 inch coil would be a better bet if you want to use it as a hybrid (water/land) detector. The 10 inch coil is very heavy to swing for extended periods out of the water where bouyancy cancels out a lot of the weight. For pinpointing the 8 inch will be far superior as well, you don't want to be digging craters.
Depending upon what you are hunting for the Excal's discrimination will be a big plus the Fisher is a PI machine without any discrimination capability.
Soil conditions may be a factor but you should check that out with some of the detectorists at your local club. I have heard of the Excal being used as a relic machine with positive results, probably hunting in pinpoint mode.
If you do decide to go with the Excal you would be better off if you hip mounted it to lower the weight and get yourself a straight shaft to balance the weight. There are issues with hip mounting but if you are on land or in the drysand you will want to hip mount.
Really you should be looking at two machines, one for each application but if you want to go with just one then I would recommend the Excal.

Kind Regards,

BDA:cool:

I also want to buy a used pulse 8 for diving for civil war relics in the Cooper River. Does anyone know of a place that sells used models? In addition, I have a Keene Engineering 3 " Combination Power Sluice and Dredge reclamation System w/ hopper, frame, 5 hp Briggs and Stratton engine and much more that I want to sell in order to purchase the Pulse 8. Does anyone know where the best place to sell or trade my equipment? Thanks for the info.

Coletrain: You might do best selling or trading your dredge on Tom Asheworth's gold prospecting forum. It has changed names to http://www.49ermike.com/. They have a for sale forum. I sold off my Proline 4 on there last year and now I am just metal detecting and treasure hunting. TNBob
