Jw fisher VS Excalibur for underwater detecting

maxpwr48

New member
hello

I am interested in getting the excalibur or the pulse 8x for my underwater metal detecting. I am new to the underwater detecting so im seeking some advice as which one to get. Also I am wondering how well theses underwater detectors do on land, (not just the beach) as this is where I do most of my detecting. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Paul

but totally another company. For underwater machines from the real Fisher research Labs name you may want to try to find a CZ-20....

I might add CZ20 for saltwater and 1280X for fresh water...

Just about a toss up with an Excalibur or CZ20 but imagine a die hard Fisher person would be happy with the CZ20 for salt water or 1280X has been around forever and certainly arguably the best fresh water unit ever made..

Depending on your intent to hunt frest or saltwater, you might consider a good, used CZ20. Most machines have trouble adjusting to saltwater, but either is good for fresh water. A friend differentiates the cz20 and the excalibur by saying the excalibur runs him nuts trying to set it-although he is very experienced in metal detecting with many different brands, for many years. He's tremendously successful, so i took his advice and found a barely used cz20. I really like it on land, and will soon (warmer weathre prevailing) try it at sea. Good luck on your choice. The excalibur would be my second choice, as it has a good reputation, too.

Thanks for the advise but how are they on land. I think I will be going with the excal but I will be mostly hunting on land In the woods and Im wondering if underwater detectors are good on land. I only wanted to invest in one since the excal is $1,200 so im wondering if I can get away with just buying this one. I have a land one but its very basic and I wanted to spoil myself and upgrade to a better one.

They are a bit bulky for land but work just as well as their land versions..Lets face it a CZ20 is a land CZ locked in the salt mode and an Excalibur is a waterproofed Sovereign...Might handy if a storm comes up, but some may mis the meter of either...

If the majority of the search is underwater and diving the pulse X8 is fine.
For water, beach and land the Excalibur would be more versatile.
As mentioned the CZ-20 is an excellent detector, so sophisticated it can be used in the dark and for night time water hunting.
I'm using two CZ-20 for that purpose.
However there is no Fisher service facility in Au.a drawback in my case.
An easily accessible service and repair facility might be a consideration.

The first time I took my cz20 for use, I found over 40 coins: zinc pennies, copper pennies, nickles, dimes, a quarter a silver ring with torquoise stones, and a large copper $1.00 merchant coin! Whew, I was worn out. All that without a l.e.d. display like my MXT has. I just set it at the highlighted settings and the thing excluded liftabs and found the MONEY and Silver. If it works UNDERwater as well, I'll be more satisfied with it than any I've ever owned!

It was in the Fisher catalog as a "land & sea" unit....like Dan said it is heavy, but I know a guy that chest mounts it. This makes you only swing a rod & coil. There is a special Fisher chest harness for it....
