nothing to do with detecting but was watching a n austrailian movie other night-cops/robber type and one guy kept calling the other guy a ripper-being the type to allways want to expand my mind was curious as to its meaning-not wanting to offend anyone.if its off color pm me thanks,Andy
 
Its usually a compliment.
If someones done you a favour or helped you out you might say 'you little ripper!!'

It can also be used to describe an advantageous situation. I have been known to yell: "You bloody litttle ripper" when uncovering a nice piece of gold while detecting.

Basically, the term "ripper" equates to something good. "Bonzer" which isnt used much these days means the same.
