I've used a lot of detectors in the almost 41 years since I got my first one, including many of the high end units, and the 3300's worked as well or better than most of them. When RS stopped local stores from selling them and they were on sale I bought three, over a two month period, for a total of $392, and I used one of them a lot. They had excellent depth in my mild ground and accurate ID down to about 7 inches, past that the meter ID jumped around. The audio tones were accurate as deep as the deepest coin I found, a barber dime at close to 9 inches. The 3300 works fine in fresh water and in the dry sand on salt water beaches, but like most single frequency detectors it has problems with wet salty sand and salt water, No problem submerging the coil and pole, but be careful not to let water get in the housing. The only negative I found with the 3300's is the build quality isn't as good as it could be. I sold two of the 3300's, and traded the other one, and the one I traded and one of the two I sold had problems a year or so after I got rid of them. The ID meter went haywire on one, and the other stopped working altogether. If you're interested, I have a short report on the first one I bought at http://jb-ms.com/Detectors/3300.htm.
