I'm living near Osaka. Detect most weekends with my young sons. Using a Garrett Sea Hunter Mark II and they use Ace's, although recently I've tended to use an Ace too on the dry sand. Mostly hunt a popular beach near us, plenty of modern coins and now we are up to 107 rings this year, mainly silver with some gold and platinum thrown in. Just got back from a couple of weeks in New Zealand so will get to the beach again this coming Sunday. Usually post on the Garrett forum.....
 
Thanks for the info....I've got a few friends in the area, and one of them gave me about a 20 minute shot at the edge of Lake Biwa....only enough time to find some junk and one arcade token. <img src="/metal/html/biggrin.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":D"> Managed to hit a remote beach resort in Tanegashima one year, but just a few coins..thankfully very little trash, which is what I expect in most cases, in Japan. I've got friends in Nagasaki I hope to visit before too long...sure wouldn't mind walking off a local beach with a pocketfull of 500 yen coins, and a bunch of gold and platinum!

Haven't tried Lake Biwa yet but reckon it could be good because it is very popular in summer, also some good ski slopes around there too. Still, the beach I mainly go to has literally thousands of people on it per day July through September, so there isn't much need to go too far. <img src="/metal/html/wink.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=";)">
