OK, I know how to set the mode, sensitivity, handle length etc. I'm ready to search. I walk in a straight line and move the coil from side to side one to two inches above the ground. When I get a hit I move up and down and left to right to put the object detected in the center of the coil. Mark the spot. Dig. My question at this point is "does the coil have to be in motion to get a signal of a hit? I purchased a pin pointer, so I assume the coils job is finished if I did actually locate the exact spot by cross checking with the coil.
I am trying to show my 11 year old grandson how this unit works and I am not positive myself. I need more confidence, which I am sure will come with on the job experience. We searched in my back yard for about 30 minutes and ended up with 4 coins. Please give me your comments. Any constructive advice is welcome. I especially appreciate your comments about how to dig responsibly and how you leave the digging area.
