Just traded for a Sov Elite

Well I just traded for a Sovereign Elite, and I should have it in a week or so. I mainly land hunt with a few trips to the beach here and there. I'm a relic/old coin hunter mostly. It has the 10" Tornado coil and the Minelab XS2 180 Meter. I am stoked!! Anyone have any info or tips and tricks for this machine? I've owned a multitude of machines but this will be my first BBS machine. Is it true that the Elite has Auto ground balance?? Or is it fixed GB? Any suggestions on accessories to add to it? And does anyone else use this meter and if so how do u like it? Thanks guys!!

Get yourself a GT straight rod or a custom straight rod. Get yourself the 5" coil. Get yourself a black hip mount bag. Swing slow and take your time.

Congrats! I agree about getting a 5" coil. I'm in my first season with a GT and pinpointing has been frustrating for me. By using a smaller coil I can get used to PP and then move on to a larger coil. Great machine- just gotta learn it. HH. Matt

patience patience patience.... its a great machine but there is a learning curve' lots of real good advice in prior posts on this site... best advice i could give to a gt newby is to do some air tests and make a small test garden with different cions and objects,, with sensetivity in auto . iron mask on. discrimination and notch set to lowest level counter clockwise. switch on fixed. threshold barley audible. . now swing the coil over objects and listen to different tones and meter readings.. once you get used to sweep speed and tones you can take the sensetivity out of auto and experiment over these same targets to see how they respond at different sensetivity settings.... i find the main challenge with this machine is to get the sensetivity set high but not to high or you get the headlights in the fog effect.. to my knowledge the ground balance only works in all metal however sometimes when im not getting many signals while working sites that i know have good targets i will groud balance in all metal then swich back to iron mask .. this seams to have a carry over effect as i often start getting better signals even though the owners manual says ground balance only works in all metal.. i now use the 15in wot coil at colonial sites with much more success than i had with 10in coil.. either way if you take the time to learn this machine youll love it... depth on land is good.. depth in wet sand is incredible.. happy huntin to ya..
