Just thinkin' out loud here, but has anyone seen or mounted a CZ20/1280X on a straight shaft, like lightning rod? Seems like it would outperform stock

I bought these brackets a few years ago and sent one to Jerry. It rear mounts the control housing on the CZ 20's already straight shaft and gives great balance to the CZ 20. If I am not mistaken I bought the bracket from Bill Babbs. The control housing can be mounted face front or rear, or still on the hand grip.

Hope this helps.

I'm still trying to decide between the 21 or the Excal. I have the CZ-20 and have always loved the machine and will keep it. But I do want to have another for back up or lone to someone would may want to hunt with me.
I'm sure that whichever machine I pick would do a super job, provided that both are as good as the old machines or better. As far as mounting to the rear, yes its far better. I have always had mine mounted in that fashion the only problem is you can't push the pinpoint button, and everything is upside-down as in the movie Pirates of the Caribbean. Which is not all bad. May want it facing forward though, as I like to see the controls, but seems like it would be a better swing under the cuff, as you have it. I suppose it woould need to be mounted below the handle, to forward mount it, huh? I REALLY like that! Thanks for sharing that with me. Just trying to get prepared, as they are due out anyday now according to recent rumors. How sturdy is the stock shaft there? Bill Babbs has this conversion bracket, you say? I suppose that I will be giving Bill a call to get one on the way. I wonder if there is any way to get rid of the blade, that sticks out of the handle. Guess you could sand or rasp it off, huh? Looks kinda tacky. Can you tell I'm a little anal? What can I say? What are those books you have lying there on the unit? I always jump om a good read! Thanks again Tinfoil and brobox.

Sandpiper, it is still on order, but am trying to iron out a few details, so when it does come in, I'll be ready. I would encourage you to buy a new Excal II, since you already have a CZ20. The CZ21 does not appear to be much advanced over the CZ20. The Excal will give you the best of both (non-PI) worlds and you could really be fair about whether you feel one is superior over the other. It will take you about 6 months to really get dialed into the Excal if you have never used one before. You could read cjc's Excal book and accelerate that learning curve dramatically. Wish I had the book when I 1st got my Excal. It would have really saved me some growing pains. Send me a PM and I will make an excellent dealer referral for your Excal.

Plus the coils wires always break after while if you always hunt with a body mounted detector. And with the amount that some of these companies charge to replace a coil on a waterproof machine it's hardly cost effective to body mount a machine! JMHO

Good Luck with your new Fisher. Look forward to hearing how it performs and if it ends up being better than your Excal!!!!

GH,

You can slide that rear shaft mount to anywhere you would like it, or turn it around to mount the control housing facing forward, then tighten the screws down. The stock bracket, the one on top of the handle, has a screw on top. Just remove the screw and the bracket comes off. The stock shaft on the CZ 20 is a sturdy as anything on the market and I have never had a problem with it. I just sold my CZ- 20 last week and the books in the photo was the owner manual and the Fisher Water Hunting Book, I threw in with the deal.

Beachcomber, my luck has probably been worse than most on other methods, besides stem mounting. Everytime I get soft and try to hipmount, terrible things happen to my units and sometimes it costs me, depending on manufacturer. For me, it's a real bad idea. Some of the larger companies like Minelab, Garrett and White's for example have nice fudge factors for their customers, especially if in warranty, even if it is my fault! I love warranty!

TY on the CZ good luck deal too BC, I am looking forward to the challenge. I have never used one, so I know my brain will be in overdrive trying to figure it out. Hoping the unit outperforms the Excal, at least in some regard, but it is a TALL order! I always dislike new detector I have never used before. Take a little time to gain my confidence and warm up to them, LOL!

LOL :) The old Fisher CZ20's used to go deep. Especially the ones with the 10"coils. Unfortunately they had problems with Iding rusty iron as a coin. Hopefully they have corrected that in the CZ21. It shouldn't take you too long to get used to it. Good Luck!!!! I will be interested in hearing your thoughts on it once you have used it for awhile and have had some time to compare it to your Excal!

I would be honored sir and thanks for your confidence. Hopefully I will be impressed, but if I am not, I'll just sell the thing. I am not really particularly atttached to anything in my arsenal, except for my Excals. They would be very hard to give up!
