Just talked to Magic on the V3i questions.

I just hung up with Doug. He is in Kentucky on a mini vacation. He said as far as some of the questions he had that he had solved the one on the depth difference between the V3 and V3i, he did some experimenting in a coin garden and found the V3 was reading about 2 inches deeper that the V3i, but the V3i is giving the correct depth to targets. As far as the pinpointing and GB issues with the V3i, he is not experiencing the problem he talked about so far while hunting in the Kentucky dirt. He will be moving to some different sites in the next few days and will report on issues when he gets back next week.

Hey I'm not as stupid is I thought, I got the depth issue right in my post. OK, lets state this, The V3 is not deeper than the V3i. Now you i owners can sleep tonight. Thanks Steve. More to come. Woo, Woo. One down 2 to go.

Hey Goat Rancher could get some clarification on this. Was he saying the V3 see targets 2 inches farther in over all coil range than the V3i, or is it just that the V3 is off in it's depth reading by two inches, or both of the above? Sorry, may be I am not reading that right? Thanks

Jack

Doug and I did some testing the other day at a hunting site. He was using the V3 and I the V3i. We checked each others deep targets and I was hearing everything he did. I will be going down tomorrow to hunt with him and a couple other folks in Kentucky. I am sure there will be some comparisons made as I know one of the other guys has a V3. If the off brand shows up they won't have a chance. :lmfao:

Jack,

The V3 is reading off in depth. It might say the target is at 8 inches and it is only 6. Kind of makes since I guess since one of the software upgrades with the i series is to compensate the depth readings by a coil selection option.

Jack I talked to Doug in a PM and discussed this before he left. He was thinking the V3 was getting deeper. That's when I said they were probably getting the same depth but because of the coil matching feature on the V3i, it was giving a more true depth reading. As I read it he answered my question and the v3 is just reading 2" deeper on the same target. he said he would be testing them on an old test garden in Kentucky. Neither is deeper, the V3 is just not as accurate in its depth reading. How could it be when it was set to give readings for a variety of coils. MHO

I checked this one out with somebody.

I agree Rob. I believe the V3 and V3i to be the identical in depth comparison. That's what my brief testing has shown. My coin Garden tells me the V3 is off 1.5 inches on deeper coins. The V3i seems to be accurate.

Good.. I am glad that is cleared up. One thing I know for sure is the V3 gives an accurate VDI on those deep targets, even if they aren't quite as deep as it says... I don't pay a lot of attention to the precise depth anyway. I don take a look but 8 or 10 inches I do not worry about because at that depth a quarter could be a dime could be a half dollar...

I have put off sending mine in for the upgrade but I am ready now to send it in and tweak the colors and tones when I get it back.

Thanks for the info...

I didn't know about the depth reading difference (yeah I'm behind & don't read up on all the stuff), but then I don't rely on a display depth reading. Although they usually have a somewhat accuracy, or approximate should be a better term, for coin ID/Depth, if I happen to look at a depth reading, it's just a tool for that approximate. They can be good indicators used in a way (one spot I been hitting, seems most of the silver in the area is 3 or more inches), but I go for all coin signals, surface finds or in the dirt.

Depth readings are just estimates. Many times the V3 & V3i will display a reading of 6 inches and the target is 8 inches. It is just an estimate!
