Just squawking in the rain....Silver doesn't like a heavy mist

Heavy mist/rain...it is par for the course here in Oregon. I have been out in a light drizzle without a cover before but this was a bit more persistent. Also I left the detector in the car overnight so it already had a head start in the humidity department.

I was about 20 minutes into detecting & my Silver decided to start chattering like crazy. I switched coils as a quick test-it got worse. I pulled the batteries & let it dry out .

Works fine now. I guess they make those rain covers for a reason. I'm far too cheep for that & made one from a heavy zipper lock bag.
Luckilly I had a backup detector. But if it may rain on your parade while detecting-I strongly advise using proper protection.

you might want to open up that housing and clean up the inside a little.......take the 9V out.....gently use a pencil eraser if you see any corrosion. Qtips and alcohol will work too.

I've used a zip lock .......only hole I allowed was the screw that holds the housing to the arm. Works great

The units only a couple of weeks old & there was no visable moisture. Did a quick puff of compressed air & a few swabs where there was some dust.

The board/controls are tightly bundled. I can see moisture being an issue when it comes to that area so I do plan on being more carefull in the rain. The zipper lock bags work great after a few mods. I have the earphone wire to deal with. I can open it to make adjustments & zip it back closed.

I'm still learning this machines language. But there is no mistaking coins with this bad boy. For now I'm digging almost every solid signal-sometimes to China it seems.

Case in point-Although it only air tests at 2" or so I found a 22 bullet head 5" down. So it goes deep but when I get to my elbow I have had to give up. Must be a old VW buried down there or whatever.Need a backhoe to find out & I doubt public works would appreciate it much.

Cheers!
