Just spoke to White's Electronics about Chinese copies...

The nice lady told me that China is exporting White's look a likes and even the boxes look the same. They are all illegal counterfeits. Mostly the CoinMaster line. That's a shame.

Make sure we support the real McCoy in Oregon.

Thanks for the "Heads Up"!!

Wanted to add, to help combat these counterfeits only buy from authorized dealers and if buying used, get the serial number and run it by Whites.

Serial numbers mean nothing. The counterfeiters just get a serial number from a good unit and put it on all the fake ones.

There is no way the workmanship can be as good as White's.

Then they use the $2 dollar bills serial number as the detector's serial number. They do this for units shipped overseas. It's probably very had to get $2. bills overseas.

Buy from an authorized dealer.

If buying used, get evidence that the detector was originally bought from an authorized dealer.

Having said that, the chances of getting a fake in the US is pretty low. whites, Garrett, Minelab and First Texas are pretty quick to put a stop to anyone selling fake detectors here - we have ample tools in the legal system for them to use.

I'm getting real tired of the US having to deal with the flood of knock-offs being brought into this country by China while we give them favored trade status. More reasons to get rid of the status-quo in Washington, we're being sold out to the highest bribe!

Again, as far as metal detectors go, actual counterfeit ones are pretty much nonexistent into US due to vigorous action by the manufacturers to use the US legal system to go after anybody who tries to sell them here as a business. Direct import by somebody who sees a listing on Ali Baba or some other Chinese site is of course possible but trying to go into the business of reselling a quantity of them that you imported that way with the pretty quickly land you in serious legal trouble.

The situation in places where intellectual property rights are hard to enforce in the local legal system – that's another matter – parts of Asia Africa and some places in Eastern Europe.
