Just something to ponder about the SE

This last weekend i went to a club hunt, it was at an old collage here in Portland. There was around 15-20 club members detecting, there was at least 10 Explorers. I was the only one using an SE, and I was the only one to find any silver coins, 2 dimes. Does this mean anything, probably not, or does it?

I Went hunting yesterday with a friend who had a Whites XLT and I found four wheat cents with my Explorer 2 and he found a Barber Half and a Barber quarter??? Does this mean the XLT is better??

If they were extremely deep or in a hole with lots of iron perhaps, but would imagine your coil went over silver dimes and perhpas their units did not...Years ago hunted a whole summer with a good buddy and he used A brand and I used B brand and at the end of the summer our silver finds were pretty close as some days he beat me and some days I beat him...In addendum all it means is you had a good day....

:clapping:That's what I REALLY like about this explorer forum...Not a lot of mines bigger than yours types here:starwars:I'm still waiting for a good deal that I can afford to come along so I can join the ranks of HAPPY hunters:detecting:

. . . . . I think that most have come to the conclusion that the new SE does offer some different features and a few improvements over the II or XS but deeper detection depth is not one of them . . . . . A lot of people have been using the two side-by-side in testing comparing signals and while you may get a "crisper" response on the SE than the previous models due to the processor, you are not finding targets with the SE that the II or XS would not detect at all.

All three are 1st class units and it is ahrd to beat how any of them perform in the field when comparing them to other units . . . .

As you said, the only thing that the silver coins mean is that your coil went over the only silver coins that were found that day and the other 9 Explorer's did not . . . .

No we just all kind of wondering around, i wasn't following anyone. I'm sure it was just that my coil went over the dimes and the others did not, although they were iffy signals, but sounded good enough to make me dig.

Yeah that's what i think too. I just thought it interesting that i was the only one to find a silver coin, no one else did, not just the explorers. I've been detecting many times when i didn't find anything good and others have. If your coil doesn't go over it you not going to find.

Did you have the chance to let any other Explorer hunters swing thier coil over the coins? Congrats on the silver by the way!! Like I said, only four wheats for me!!

Many people pass those iffy signals, I used to and its your good fortune that you did dig those coins. I have noticed on this alot of good coins coming from "iffy" signals!! Nice piece of detecting!!

No i did not have others swing over these signals. When I first got my SE i went out with two other EX2's and we checked signals, the SE read the signals a little different then the EX2's, but we all thought that the SE had no advantage over EX2 as far as depth goes. I'm going out East next week with another guy who will be using a EX2, we will be detecting from daybreak until dark and later for 5 days, it will be interesting to check signals in that part of the country. He was out there a few weeks ago and thought the ground was much easier to detect in then here in Oregon. He found 57 silver coins (in three weeks) and said they sounded good compared to Oregon finds. The ground out here has iron almost everywhere, it's natural in the ground. The sand next to the rivers in Portland will stick to a magnet. I getting very excited about this trip. HH
