Hi All, my first post. I hope to gain as much knowledge as I can and share as well, with my new, hope to be... virtual digging family. I had just received back from White's in O.R. HQ my repaired/replaced DFX. In a family move somehow it had been damaged, where the plastic housing cracked around the digital display although the digital display was ok the trigger was out of it's socket etc... I read previous posts here that White's takes care of their product with excellent customer device. I agree. They gave me everything new even a 950 coil with a 2 year warranty. they left my circuitry as it seemed fine. New handle, armrest foam grip, and even regular AA batts. I should have taken a picture of my coil as I can not for the life of me recall which one I had. Now, as mentioned I have a 950. I do not think I had this one before. I had emailed and got a a phone call from their service Dept. Glad they called back and seemed sort of satisfied but not completely, about my coil. It may have been a 300 or a Dh2? They said the 950 is good. I mentioned there was no charge on the invoice for the coil, they said oops!! I asked what happened to my original coil, and they answer was..."Circuitry not good anymore"???? The parts total was around $29.00 total. Labor they always charge $54.00 That being said, here is the crux of my post. I was thinking of getting either the 6 x 10 DD Eclipse or the 10" DD (D2) and possibly selling my 950?? Any thoughts??? keep the 950??? I live in Bergen County NJ, and have the best of both worlds, 45 min. from beach and not far from Revolutionary War turf. I grew up in Central NJ and lived in a a town where G.W. traveled thru. Looking forward to getting down there when the weather softens the ground up.

I am a jewelry model maker by making wax models also via gold smithing/silver smithing techniques. Platinum smithing as well. And lastly have access to CAD with 3d printing of wax models I have a few degrees in Jewelry and Gemology. I would love to help out y'all prior to scrapping gold if by chance some of you do not know what you have, (I'm sure you are all pretty swift if interested in this hobby) that some hall marks are more desirable and worth more than scrap. Some may think some are, but in reality they are not.

The coolest thing I had been shown, was a dental bridge from the Revolutionary War, as my wife is a dentist. I got a real thrill out of it, more so than finding gold.

Take a peek of a recent job I had made by recutting some of the stones that had been damaged, this was a compilation of breaking apart a few items of jewelry to get these stones to work together.

Sorry if any of this is inappropriate for the channel. Please let me know where I can post if I erred.

Thanks in advance for any input.

I find this very interesting. I was once going to get into lapidary but do not have the space. I bought one of those genie cab cutter machines, rock saws and other things. I still have a flatlap cab cutter and a small rock saw. One of these days I am going to pull it out and have some fun. I always wanted a ring with my family crest on it. There used to ba a company who made them but now I cannot find anything about them anymore. I find what you do interesting. I am sure a few others will chime in here as well. Tim

Online there is a company if you search family tree or name meanings will have a pic of most a family crests. If I find it. I will post it

Eric,
Nice piece and nice post.
I'm waiting for my newly purchased BUT defective 6000 xl pro to arrive at Whites as I write.
I never completed any formal jewelry training. I did learn some lost wax methods in college. Did some self taught lapidary work also. From '85-'96 I prepared meteorite specimens and made meteorite jewelry for the 2nd largest trader in that material. Some day I hope to use my vacume caster again.
I use a 705 xterra also and live in DELCO, Pa.
perhaps I'll have the pleasure of meeting you sometime in the future.

Greg, way cool about the meteorite pieces. I had ben to Tucson a few years back and there was a Swedish I believe dealer who had steel like sawn meteorites I have one I put a silver wire thru the hole on top and made a pendant out of it. It looks like the way Rolex makes their meteorite dials. Supposedly the dealer says he supplied them???? I love the way Paladot looks. with the peridot type of stone embedded in the meters matrix.

I have vac cast machine too, not set up, I make models and it pays for me to let the casting houses in NYC handle the transformation

Thanks for the reply,

Eric
