Just Received by coin back from ANACS

I found this seated dime a couple weeks back and thought it was worthy of being graded. Just thought I would share a picture. It graded a bit higher than I expected, however the "cleaned" was a dissapointment, because I tried taking extra care with it. Is "cleaned" typical of a silver being dug out of the ground? Thanks

The coin looks good to me. Is it possible that there are very fine scratches on the coin that happened while it was buried (due to shifting in the soil), and the grader blamed them on cleaning? I have heard of others having the same problem.

Its difficult to get a GREAT grading on a dug coin. To many investors now days .... it may be rare, but they (investors) want grading and perfection.... it makes their coins worth more than the poor kid who used to do it for a hobby. They have coin sniffers believe it or not that can id even the slightest of chemicals. More than like thou if you used just soap and water yes there were visible rub marks under the scope. But that is on heck of a coin and grade.

At first I wondered why you would get a common date seated dime professionally graded. But then I looked up it's worth in AU-50 .. not too shabby even if it has been labeled "cleaned" :clapping: How much did it cost you to have it graded if you don't mind me asking ?

Nice find by the way !

ANACS HAS A TENDENCY TO GRADE HIGHER -MOST - OF THE TIME - THAN PCGS-NGC-SEG AND SOME OF THE OTHERS
ANACS IS CHEAPER TO HAVE A COIN GRADED 'BUT GENERALLY THE OTHERS GRADED COINS WILL SELL FOR MORE IN
THE SAME GRADE -BECAUSE PEOPLE WHO BUY PREFER -NGC-PCGS OTHER GRADING SERVICE COINS OVER ANACS -WITH
NGC BEING #1 -PCGS #2 AND SO ON ------STILL YOU FOUND A NICE COIN --GOOD HUNTING-CURT

That will grade a dug coin ! All Silver coins dug out of the ground will have scratches from ground freezing and thawing
over the years. Anacs is the only service that will slab these type of coins,
All other service places just send the coin back to you with a letter saying the coin has been cleaned there far
they will not grade it or slab it anyway! Anacs last time I had one slabbed cost around $28.00 to have it done ,
it has probably gone up in the past 5 yeas!

THE GRADING SERVICES GO BY THE VALUE AND HOW FAST YOU WANT IT BACK-AS FAR AS COST
YOU CANNOT SEND A COIN TO NGC -PCGS SEG AND OTHERS TO BE GRADED UNLESS YOU ARE A MEMBER
OF THOSE -WHAT MOST PEOPLE DO IS TAKE IT TO A DEALER AND HAVE THEM SEND IT IN FOR THEM TO HAVE IT GRADED

Awwww another stumbling block for the youngster with a hobby. I hate coin investors.

Really sharp coin there! I have a barber quarter I would like to submit for grading but like everyone has said; I know it would come back designated as such or cleaned; etc..
Don't let that discourage you though because your dime is very sharp!

GO TO ANY OF THESE AND TYPE IN AND SEARCH THEY WILL GIVE YOU THE CHARGE ON ---ANY--- COIN YOU SEND IN TO
HAVE GRADED AND YOU CAN GET IT GRADE FOR DIFFERENT AMOUNTS ACCORDINGLY

SEARCH THESE --------NGC GRADING COSTS
PCGS GRADING COSTS
